matchbook exchange

Thu Oct 31, 2013 2:34 pm

I opened a matchbook account recently and had an offer for 2 months commission free which has now ended. Matchbook charge 1% on volume matched regardless of whether the bet wins or loses.

What arbitrage forumla do you use to factor in the 1% win or lose on matchbook for backing with a bookmaker and then backing at matchbook. And, also for backing with a bookmaker and laying at matchbook.

You can use arbcruncher calculator and fill the commission percentage for each book, like 5% for Betfair and 1% for Matchbook.

Cheers, I was looking for equations.

When arbing with a bookmaker and betfair I use the the following

for backing with the bookmaker and backing at betfair:
s2 =  s1 x  {o1/ [(bf - 1) x (1 - c) + 1]}

s = stake, o = odds, c = commission

for backing at a bookmaker and laying at betfair I use:

s2 = s1 x [o1 / (o2 - c)]

Matchbook charge 1% commission regardless whether the bet wins or loses. Commission is applied to the win amount on winning bets, or the lesser of the stake or potential win amount, for losing bets.

How do I work out the bets when using matchbook to have an equal win on both sides now?

Write the equations for the net winnings. In the fist case we have :

(o1-1)s1 - s2 - 0.01min(1,o2-1)s2  = 0.99(o2-1)s2 - s1, and we solve for s2.

When we lay :

(o1-1)s1 – (o2-1)s2 - 0.01min(1,o2-1)s2 = 0.99s2 – s1.

Can you work through an example please, so I know what to substitute where.

Say you back £100 at 2.5 with a bookmaker and you can back odds of 1.8 the other side at matchbook.

s1 = 100, o1 = 2.5, o2 = 1.8

(o1-1)s1 - s2 - 0.01min(1,o2-1)s2  = 0.99(o2-1)s2 - s1

I can't figure out what goes here 0.01min(1,o2-1)s2

If we solve this we find :

s2 = o1s1/( 0.99o2 + 0.01min(2,o2) )

I have omitted the multiplication symbol. So in the example s2 = 138.89.

Thanks. I'll try this out and see what I can find. So far, I'm trying out things that might work for me.

I got a question about this as well and confused.  I use scalpulator.com to know how much i have to wager on each side to do an arb.  For example, i would go and type +105 for book A and +100 for book 2 and then put the to win amount as 1000.  Then scalpulator would tell me how much i need to wager to arb the bet.  This works if its 2 books that isn't matchbook and thus the +105 and +100 are the odds for the two wagers.  Matchbook does the 1 percent thing so how do you do the math to scalp it?  I done it but i always sort of do an estimate after using scalpulator.

For example say you could get +105 on a wager at another book.  On matchbook, you can bet the other side at -103 which you would qualify as an arb b/c after the 1 percent commission, you still make a bit.  However, if its -104 on matchbook, its not an arb b/c after the 1 percent you are losing money on the bet.

can someone tell me how to do the arb and how much to wager on each side if bet A is +105 and Bet B is -103 at matchbook and lets make it to win 1000?  For me i would do it like +105 for scalpulator on line 1 and then -104 on line 2 but i know its more like -104.03 but you can't type -104.03 on scalpulator.  Thoughts on this?  Can somsone show me the math on this?

How do I work out the bets when using matchbook to have an equal win on both sides now?
Its quite simple

A = stake bookie A
B = stake bookie B
X = Odd bookie A
Y = Odd bookie B
c = Commission

We get by win bookie A
A(X-1)-B(1+c)
We get by win bookie B
B(Y-(1+c))-A

together we get
A(X-1)-B(1+c)=B(Y-(1+c))-A
Resolving this
AX-A-B-BC=BY-B-BC-A -->
AX-A+A=BY-B+B-BC+BC
AX=BY

Example
odd A =3; odd B 1,55(Matchbook 1%comm)
we get
3A=1.55Y
This tell us that we have to place at B (1.55/3)^-1 for every on A.
(1.55/3)^-1=1.9354

Win at A
1*(3-1)-(1.01*1.9354)=1*2-1.9548=2-1.9548=0.0451
Win at B
1.9354*(1.55-1-0.01)-1=1.9354*.54-1=1.0451-1=0.0451
We see that win A is equal to win B

conclusion
commission fee doesn't matter for calcution. offcourse for the arb it does matter.
stake bookie A =
B (Y/X)
stake bookie B =
A (X/Y)

It works like other exchanges I don't know what's your problem.  Maybe there was server error or something like that. And of course there cash out option in deposit/withdraw section.

Piciu18. Matchbook does not work as other exchanges. Commissions are charged on every bet (win or lose).
And cash out has nothing to do with deposit/withdraws. It's not to withdraw money  ;). It's to place an opposite bet to one bet already placed, to secure a profit (or a loss). Betfair does it automatically.
