Pinnacle or Betfair

Wed Jan 14, 2015 4:41 pm

Evening gentlemen

Talking Soccer 1x2 exclusively - what bookmaker do you find sharper - Pinnacle or Betfair?

I have read in a book written by Joseph Buchdal, that Betfair's odds would be closest to the fair odds, as there is no "lean" on Betfair.

What do you think? Up until now I have used Pinnacle as a sort of benchmark - to evaluate whether or not a bet is EV+. However I have now started to doubt if Pinnacle actually is the sharpest of the sharps.

What do you think?

Betfair will have the sharpest price but if you take commission into account then it's Pinnacle.

The thing about SBO is that they have quite Big margins and I do not think that the margins can be added proportionally to the odds offered, as they tend to have quite low odds on the underdog.

Am I correct?

Pinnacle is easier to use as a benchmark because of their low juice in a variety of sports/lines. It doesn't matter so much whether they are always the sharpest or not.

I agree. However Betfair has no juice (when you do not include commission). Would not they be even easier to use as a benchmark?

I'm somewhat leaning towards people but I can still see a number of people going with Betfair though.

Even without taking commission into account the book% isn't always near 100% but you can use Betfair if you prefer.

Betfair fotball lines are the sharpest - you can use them as a benchark.

Not always. When odds on favourite on soccer matches are between 1.80-2.30 then asians (pinnacle, sbo) have better odds.

If the lines at asians + pinn are better then at Betfair (assuming 0% commission), then by betting on the asians+pinn you will be a long time winner.

It's worth bearing in mind Pinnacle have a lot of very clever people working for them (I know a couple and they are way smarter than most) whereas Betfair is mostly used by losers sitting in their underpants at a computer.
I know who'd I'd take as a true market line.

Betfair lines are not made by guys in underpants (even though plenty of them is placing bets there), but by a very few market makers (I do suspect, that the Betfair itself is the biggest market maker there).
