Trading versus Arbing

Fri Apr 03, 2015 10:12 pm

Hi,
I recently read the following post and have not been able to find an acceptable answer as to what is the difference and how to trade rather than arb 'Hello, backing and laying at horses works only if you do trading ,don't do arbitrage betting there because you will be limited in no time."

I would like to back / lay horse and harness racing without being restricted as this post suggests. Any input would be appreciated.

arbing is finding an oportunity that exists right now between different books and odds that generates a profit by betting on all outcomes. However soft books (the ones that move lines slowly after big odds movement etc) are caught in offside and on the wrong side of value in the arbitrages found between softs and sharps so this will tend to limit you after they have caught on to what you are doing. If your arbing horses it will be very fast.
Trading is finding oportunity by anticipating this odd movement in some way, can be done live or pre match. If you know where odds might go then you can back or lay at one point wait for the movement and then do the oposite. This wont get you limited and you can do all bets on betfair for example. But the problem here is its not really sure money like an arbitrage well executed. You have to rely on the odds going the way you think they will and not against you.

Thanks! Very well said right there.
