Build your own sports betting arbitrage software

Fri Dec 16, 2016 1:53 pm

PART 1

Hello fellow arbusers! This is my first post.

There is a bookmaker in my country that offers daily one match (mostly on football matches, once or twice per week on basketball matches) with 0% rake in the moneyline market. I wouldn't want to go against any rules of the forum so i won't mention the bookmaker's name in public.

I have been consistently able to exploit this offer in order to arb (almost always on basketball matches where there are 2 possible outcomes, instead of 3). I have been using oddsportal in order to compare the odds to other bookmakers. Most of the time, i use pinnacle for the bet on the opposing market.

This has been working out quite well. The problem is that it requires monitoring the market on your own. I have ruled out using oddsportal's odds alert system, because usually crappy russian/ turkish bookmakers tend to show up in the results, thus making the alert sytem kind of useless to me.

Recently, i came across pinnacle's app, which has a built-in odds alert system. You set the odds that the opposing market would have to reach and as soon as that happens, you receive a notification on your smartphone. This has helped me to be more efficient (time-consuming wise).

PART 2

I am content with the way this strategy has been performing but i was wondering if there was a way to develop a simple software, to make things more efficient.

The software would have to work like this:
1. Visit the webpage of the aforementioned bookmaker and spot matches with 0% rake in the moneyline market (one match offered per day)
2. Compare the odds of the first bookmaker to those of other selected bookmakers (mainly pinny, probably sports exchanges to lay the first bet).
3. Estimate if an arbitrage opportunity comes up
4. Notify me (via email/ on-screen) as soon as an arbitrage opportunity occurs.

This is the brief idea. Do you have any suggestions? What would i have to search in order to get me started? I have to mention that i do not have any programming skills (this is an obvious setback). Should i consider hiring a freelancer to develop the software?

All in all, what's your thoughts? Would you consider this something worthwhile?  Kindly bear in mind that my "strategy" is already profitable and i am content with that. The first part of my post could be used as a guide to manually finding your arbs. Cheers!

Hello, bryant

you can go to the freelancer website and ask for a programmer to do the heavy programming for you. There are many Indian companies in this website which have many and cheap programmers to help you with. The only thing that i don't know is about the copywrite thing. You can check it and see.

I was not referring to this one, but of course you could use them for the same reason!

programming cost would be 20keur+  If u think u can get more money from your book then go ahead

But there are few problems
a) site changes their odds policy suddenly mayby because of you...and your investment is trash
b)you cant get good application and have problems with developers

What??? You mean 20.000 euro? There is no way the cost to be like that. With that amount of money(+ a little bit) you can buy a bookmaker software and create a small bookmaking business.LOL

Hi Bryant,

I have some experience in this as I am a professional software developer myself, while developing and learning stuff from this forum in my free time. The forum is a great place to learn a few tricks which would be costly to learn otherwise.

So far I have built a system which compares the prices for 1X2 lines of two bookmakers (one asian, and one soft book) , finds arbs, and places bets on its own under a number of conditions.

I don't agree with the 20k suggestion made in an  earlier post. You can start with a few hundreds. Still keep in mind that this is an evolving and continuously changing environment. Don't expect tot develop a system to last weeks without requiring some changes. If you're scraping bookmaker's websites, they are prone to changes. Bookmakers might block your IPs for making frequent requests to their sites, so you'll need to have a number of servers making the same call sequentially so that an ip will not be seen by the bookie as making so much frequent calls.

Also you will need to host your system on a third party server/s.

If you have a well defined plan and would like to ask me for a time estimate and possible cost estimate , I can help.

I have built an excel program which compares the 1x2 and U/O odds for about 20 bookies. It basically compares:

1) The soft bookies with Pinnacle and Sbobet
2) The soft bookies between themselves

I customised it in a way so that I can easily input the percentage difference for an "alert" to show up, Obviously, since this is excel, it is not an automatic program, in the sense that i did macros where with the click of a button i download the data as excel data, copy/paste it in the program itself, and click a button for it to check if there are any arbs. This means that the prices are not in real time, and there might be a 5 minute discrepancy when I have the odds compared by the system, but usually that's still good enough for most pre-game arbs.

I'm not a pro programmer, in fact I only know basics. However, for anyone who has no programming background, I would recommend using Excel to create such tools as you can easily create one to help you out and obviously does not cost anything.

Actually I have a question for the programmers out there. Would it be possible to turn this excel tool into an actual app? As that would be the ideal next step.
