Asked personal details in a Betting shop

Fri Dec 13, 2024 11:31 am

Hi all

I went in to a well known Bookies (shop) this week to collect a decent amount. I normally bet quite big 3-400 on a double in NBA etc where the lines are sometimes quite good.

I hadn't bet in this shop for a couple of years until I returned maybe 2 months ago. Today they are asking me what I do for work and how much I can afford to lose and my income etc, they also asked for my address.

When I asked why he said because I lost 3k last month. I found this absurd as I had won over that prior to that loss. He stated they needed an amount I am willing to lose in a month and if I go over that I would be banned until a new month commences.

I stated my income approx but refused my address details. The guy wrote it down on scrap paper which again I found offensive given GDPR rules etc. I am thinking to email their head office to complain?

It is obvious they are profiling you. The rest is complete BS. Wondering what your country is, I guess the UK?

If I may ask, what bookie was it? I normally try to keep my stakes to £50 per bet to keep under their radar, then try to place the bet a few times per shop (different machines).
