Betdaq - a viable alternative to Betfair?

Wed Mar 13, 2013 12:23 pm

Since Betdaq have been taken over by Ladbrokes they have started a bit of a marketing campaign and their new 'Manifesto' is outlined below:

We Want Equality - Winners are Welcome
No Premium Charge - Ok, No Premium Charge
We Want More Freebies - First UK Race Free Every Day
We Won’t Pay High Rates - Commission Will Stay Low
More Liquidity & Markets - We Promise More Liquidity, Events & Markets
Make In-Running Fairer - Fairer In-Running Delays

Do you guys think that Betdaq, with the weight of Ladbrokes behind them, will offer serious competition to Betfair?

Anyone using Betdaq for pre-game arbing now that they offer 0% commission for new and reactivated accounts for 31 days?

Their liquidity is mostly "fake" liquidity, meaning there are in-house market makers from what I understood.
At least for the not so popular markets. The odds are hardly priced at 100%.Maybe only for really popular games.
Looks like they have a lot to do to become a real threat to Betfair  :(

I think Betfair already have taken the lead this year. But when you look at their reviews, there are still a lot of unsatisfied customers from them.

11.3€ million matched on Grand National on Betdaq vs 10.3€ million on Betfair.
I like where this is going!

very interesting and also surprising, think ladbrokes may be at work here though, Betfair need a massive kick up the backside,
fabulous product being wasted by mismanagement and greed, they had a monopoly and they have thrown it away, for a Betfair man like myself not good news, liquidity has steadily been decreasing from the betfair exchange, they are just a very greedy and stupid company.

They show amounts matched differently.

If you bet £2 at Betdaq at odds of 100, it shows 200 or 202 as amount matched, can't remember which.

If you bet £2 at Betfair at odds of 100, it shows amount matched 4.

that would explain it, I know Betfair have been going downhill but for betdaq to have more trade than Betfair in the national
did surprise me, betdaq are still a long way behind Betfair and for me not even close to a viable alternative.

I hoped Betdaq would pick up but whenever I take a look it's dire.

Yes, the above statements are true.

The main problem in my opinion is that there isn't enough liquidity to have a competitive exchange aside of Betfair. It seems positive to have more liquidity at Betdaq or Matchbook, but if want to do trading is a little worrying the lack of liquidity even in Betfair these days.

I have to agree with you. For this year, I think this could be considered a monopoly already.
