Good afternoon,
I've been reading this forum's posts for the past few weeks. It's made for a fascinating read and has inspired me to pursue a part time automation project. I'll be looking for value bets, and likely blundering into several objects and pitfalls along the way. But I'm hoping to avert banging into a brick wall right at the start so would like to ask for some advice.
I want to apply for Betfair Exchange's live API key. As well as a fee, there is also an application form. There are questions on the form that require very specific answers such as "how much will you intend to bet" and "what sports will you bet on". It's perhaps a bit of a difficult question to address in public, because I don't necessarily want to create a how-to-bypass-Betfair's-vetting-process thread. But for better or worse, I wanted to use BE as a sharp reference point to find value bets elsewhere. I'm not really interested in arbing the other side on BE, so they would not get much volume from me if any.
My instinct is to just state that I won't be betting much, since I believe that this application form is really to weed out people intending to use the API commercially. My questions were:
1. How transparent would you advise being in this situation?
2. Does anyone have knowledge they're willing to share on how frequently Betfair deny these applications for legitimate users?
3. Will I have to wager through a certain amount and maintain a profile in order for them to grant access.
Thanks
