Boxing Day and Betting

Mon Dec 26, 2022 5:48 pm

Before anything else, let me explain what Boxing day is. It has nothing to do with the sport of Box.

In the UK, during the Victorian times, the day after Christmas was used by the rich to box up items they no longer needed to give to the poor. Servants were allowed to take the day off and they would also receive gifts from their masters as a ''thank you for your services''. The presents given would be referred to as a ''Christmas box'' which led to the day eventually known as ''Boxing Day''.

During the day, sports and games take place and Boxing Day became synonymous with football. To put is shortly, it is a day for families to get together, go to games, cheer on their teams and extend the festive season. Some people find the day as an excuse to stay drunk longer.

Bookmakers realised the importance of the day and they started offering lavish bonuses to gamblers. The majority of gamblers took it as Betting Santa. Unfortunately, the abuse of bonuses during the last 10-15 years made Boxing Day bonuses being the same like every other day. But if you are a constant and smart bettor, there is still money to be made.

Where is the money in Boxing Day?

Traditionally, smart and sharp bettors prefer to take some days off to spend with friends and family during holidays. At least, this is what I do, and this is my suggestion to you too. But some people take advantage of the weaker competition to multiply their income.
In England football at all levels is played during the day, and this is the sport you should focus on if you are looking for this extra income. Horse racing also takes great precedence on this day with the ''King George VI Chase'', the second most prestigious chase in the UK. For cricket fans, Boxing Day is mostly associated with the test series and Australia playing at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Cricket receives a lot of attention in India, Pakistan, S. Africa and Oceania. Lastly, it is the NBA that will give you some more games late at night. if you don’t go to bed early, you could exploit that too.

I hope that helps you identify the importance of the day, and where the money is. Frankly, I believe you should spend the day with friends and family and let that money be won by people who badly need it.
