Gambling regulation started in Brazil at the end of 2018. Back then, the government secured an astonishing minimum of 89% pay out to the players. In addition, all legislation was for the players, creating a tough and fair environment. Brazil was/is a gambling Eldorado, up to the point where some European smart bettors moved to Brazil to take advantage of the opportunities.

The Brazilian government is now moving quickly towards a European style of regulation. According to the national Treasury, gaming operators which have not yet applied for a licence will be suspended starting from October 1st. So far, 113 gaming operators have applied for authorisation nationwide, but more are expected to follow in the next couple of weeks.

Companies that have not requested authorisation will not be able to continue operations, but must keep their websites online until the 10th of October to allow bettors to withdraw funds. From the 11th of October, these websites and applications will be suspended and taken offline. Brazil already has relevant experience by banning access to X.
We believe there will be left good opportunities after the block, however the trajectory of smart betting business in Brazil is now facing south.
