Call from bank

Thu Jan 07, 2021 2:31 pm

Hi guys,

Today i get a call from bank, never happened to me before. They asked to meet me.

I believe the reason is mainly sport betting because i use cards in order to deposit. Also maybe some banking transfactions abroad(stock market).

What we do in this sitiuation?I think this is ridiculous, because lets say that someone has rich parents,so this person should be able to spend to his cards etc as much he wants.

One idea is to use another bank, but i am not sure what will happen with accounts(especially stock accounts which are connected to this bank account).Anyone has experience?

A lot of people complain about Revolut and N26 but Revolut right now has never asked anything.

Are they going to terminate bank account? Can they do this?

Imagine if they have problem with deposits of sport betting(which may you lose) what will happen when someone withdraw a big amount of bitcoin, crpytos to bank account.

I thnik that the only solution is Neteller cards,Revolut cards and in general spend amounts via similar cards(also Bitcoin cards).

If all you have done is gambling and stock markets, the second one may be the reason. Banks in europe are in war with stock companies right now as large amount of capital is going from europe to this brokers. This may be the reason if gambling is allowed in your country.

From which country you are from?

To me happend the same by three differnt banks 4 years ago. One closed my account and 6 months later closed my mothers account without reason too! (She never send or received money from bookies, epayment or fintechs.)

And what actually what does this mean.We cannot transfer where we want our balance.Crazy things.

Maybe the bank is obliged to abide to money laundering resolutions by investigating accounts with suspicious transactions.

I recently had to provide documentation for my sports betting activities to my bank. It was no problem as gambling is legal in my country. At the same time I decided to apply for a mortgage on a residence and my self made income statements from sports betting was informally the decisive factor for getting the approval as they provide a significant contribution to the family income. My family has other types of income, but without sports betting, the balance sheet would be negative.

So if gambling is legal in your country, and you're not trying to avoid taxes among other things, could you just provide the documentation for your bank? Maybe they just want to rule out money laundering.

If they were to close your account, you likely would simply get a letter stating all your accounts will be closed in 30-60 days with a request to transfer all balances.

Alfa is correct.

Personally had a phone call 2-3 years ago from a bank that was clean from betting transactions.

They wanted me to explain them why i was depositing cash each month in that account. They found it weird and indeed it was. Once i explained them, story ended there.

Try to explain them your situation and please don't tell them ''it is my money, i can do whatever i want'' etc. It will not help you at all.

If you have many transactions to investment services, don't be surprised if they only want to inform you about their investment services as well.

Imo you will only have problems if you don't have a normal job.

Are you saying they ask to meet you in person? That would be a surprise during these times (pandemics). I have heard many cases over the years, but none of them was about a meeting in person.

Which country are you from ?  Even if betting is legal in your country, it could be due to that bcs some banks see it as non-ethical. I know, it's bullshit, but is what I've often read lately. In that case they allow you to move all your balance and close your account. Next question is : will another bank welcome you or will ask source of funds and same story again? If anyone know pls answer

People you are owners of your own money and dont let the banks or anybody else scare you, you need to show who is boss there, i had few times similar problems and when banks start to ask too much i just tell them,ok i am going to collect all my money from there and close my account, you ll see how their behaviour changes and start to talk more politely and stop with stupid questions. They depend from you not the other way around.

Banks in E.U have rules and need to comply with them.

If your transactions don't fit to your customer profile, they are forced to ask you some questions. If you failed to answer them, they can close your account and even report you.

If you guys believe that you can scare a bank by threatening them that you will move your money from the bank, go ahead.

Have in mind that if a bank close your account, many banks will reject you when you apply for a new account. Something similar happened to the guy below in Germany:

wettforum.info/forum/bookie-section/buchmachertests/4913349-bankkonten-investigation

The OP was in this forum as well at some point, maybe he can tell us how his story ended if he is still around.

Without people, there are no banks and there is no system.

Personally, I'm moving all my funds to a decentralized ecosystem. I'm able to pay for everything using a visa card connected to my Binance account. I do not need nor I don't want to use banks anymore.

This is the future.

I will wait and buy it with BTC or another crypto. For now, I have a house and a car already. This is the adoption phase and I'm just adopting to the new. It is all about awareness.

All this could sound delusional but I truly believe that this is the future. I'm trying to be the change I want to see in the world ;)
