In recent months, France has witnessed a very disturbing surge in violent crimes targeting individuals associated with the cryptocurrency industry.
Just yesterday, on May 13, 2025, in Paris's 11th arrondissement, the daughter and two-year-old grandson of a cryptocurrency CEO were attacked by masked assailants attempting to force them into a van. The child's father intervened, sustaining injuries, and passersby assisted in thwarting the kidnapping. The following video contains some graphic content:
This incident follows a pattern:
In January, David Balland, co-founder of Ledger, and his partner were kidnapped and tortured, with a ransom of €10 million demanded. On May 1st, the father of another crypto entrepreneur was abducted in Paris, held for ransom, and had a finger severed before being rescued.
These attacks underscore the growing risks faced by crypto-affiliated individuals. Authorities urge heightened security measures and awareness within the crypto community.
I would like to also mention that similar cases were reported in Sweden, the country where data such as home address, telephone number, birthday and even bank card references are often available to anyone through a simple Google search, in the name of transparency of course.
Stay vigilant and consider enhanced personal security protocols.
