Crypto investment strategies

Tue Aug 30, 2022 9:22 pm

Hi everybody,

There has been some discussion about cryptos around here lately - yes / no, what is arbuser’s opinion of the market, etc. etc.

Personally, I find such discussions both intriguing and non informative: I’d much rather understand WHY people think that something will happen, than to hear about their predictions.
(Of course, I appreciate what people share, and am very much aware that nobody owes me anything).

In case I’m not the only one interested, I was wondering if the people around here are interested to share which investing methods they use and/or believe in, how they work, and why they believe that they might be useful in the future.

Personally - I’ve spent the bulk of my career predicting short-term price moves, and I’m far from an expert in investing - so my opinions are rather amateurish in this longer horizon predictions field.

I do believe that for most people buying a broad market index is the most cost-effective investment strategy. I also believe in value stocks - if you are well trained in analyzing them, and that trend following works, and can be considered an additional investing risk factor, that you can choose to expose yourself to and earn return over time.

Specifically, when it comes to cryptos, simple trend-following strategies have been highly profitable so far (for example be long as long as you’re above the X-day moving average, for many values of X), and other market-neutral strategies (e.g basis trading) are also very profitable, assuming that you’re comfortable with the risk of crypto / crypto exchanges existing long term.

Other things: RSI, dynamic DCA, technical analysis that isn’t just trend following - I know nothing about, and would love to be educated.

No expert either here. I have no knowledge basis to make any decision and therefore I am trying to smell the direction. I buy things when I hear bad news on TV (or Youtube) and sell them when I hear good news all over.
Fair enough?
