That was my longest summer ever, almost a month, and I was wondering if you guys manage to completely shut-off business when on holidays.
As for me, I always try to socialise with people who might bring in fresh resources during the winter. Also, I am doing some redistribution of funds between sharp bookmakers/wallets and agents.
How about you guys?
Do you really shut-off when on holidays?

Let me share a different point of view.
In my view, it's just a mental setup. Let me explain:
Let's assume, someone is accepting the profitable business as an exhausting long-time work.
That's completely true, but if she/he is combining:
- the enjoyment of the object of that business;
- the enjoyment of return (big percentage of correct "forecasts" triggered by your methods plus the time-adjusting stop-loss points during your career, and therefore the logical possible profits);
- the enjoyment of improving some methods on your own or even inventing and trying some very different ideas and their later Alpha and Beta testings to accept or reject their real behavior;
as a possible result of the aforementioned and other things, in this way, you'll enter "The Zone" and raising the quantity of your work will greatly decrease the feeling of "exhausting" work (or even completely disappear), i.e. such as a kind of a Doppler effect.
Well, I'm not implying at all that if you work long hours in front of X number of screens, you don't need a vacation and rest for a while.
I'm just saying that even if you are away from business screens while in informal everyday situations, the brain works automatically while resting:
- On the eve of the Xmas/New Year holidays, you can open a small screen for a few seconds and see info about an ITF match in Manacor or elsewhere. Or a bit of an update on the Aussies vs England in Melbourne ("The Ashes" Cricket Series);
- At a party, you can open a small screen for a few seconds to see an event in a very different time zone;
due to the brain working in the background, you need a few seconds to know whether the offered odds contain value or not. That way, let's say for a minute or two Off-Spin, you are in the action, but it never disturbs your peaceful rest / warm party / socializing.
The office can wait.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Do you really shut-off when on holidays?
For me - betting with a phone (outside of your betting setup) has always been a joke. NO really - for over 20 years I never placed a bet or log into a bookie in my phone. It does not seems profesional to me, but that is not the problem.
The main problem I found with trial and error is that - you have to be in the Game - arb12 perfectly explained a lot about the process. You have to feel the rhythm of the game, the match, the environment.
Every time I came back home and sit right to the computer - I made mistakes. You brain is not just that flexible at switching from social to rational mode. And I have never done it for over 15 years.
When I am out - I am out - don't care who is playing, woulda, shoulda, coulda..... yes I could have made money, but it is equally true I could have lost money, never know, never will.
But when I am doing my business - I completely shut down for the outside world. Don't care who has a birthday, a jubelee, phone calls (if not emergent) etc. If I have not planned it or made time for it, it was unimportant. Period. If I started a game/match - I always finish it. If I have to go out - just don't start a new game to watch, follow games already started and then shut down PC, TV.
I don't believe in work/life balance. It is not like 50/50. I believe when is time for work - I work at 100%, when is time for rest - I rest at 100%. When, how, how long is up to everyone to decide. I love betting, it is The love of my life, but it is not JUST betting. I love so many things, and I have to find time for them all. And I try to be as close to be at 100% for all of them. What's the point if you are not present at the time?

This is an excellent post reflecting reality to a large extend. But allow me to comment of the mobile betting comment.
Some 7-8 years ago it was reported that betting from desktop and betting from smartphones was in a balance of 50-50. Last year (2023) a well known bookmaker reported receiving 95% of bets from smartphones and only 5% from desktop and tablets.
By ignoring today's reality your are putting your self on a spot light, unless your betting action keeps them happy.
