The UKGC announced that four table tennis players were suspended for match-fixing, following a complex international investigation into match fixing and unusual betting activity in the sport.

UKGC began scrutinising these players after receiving reports of unusual and suspicious betting activity from licensed operators on matches held in Ukraine between 2018 and 2020, linked to British betting accounts. The Sports Betting Intelligence Unit (SBIU) played a key role in identifying and supporting the investigation into match-fixing. The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) also played a major role.

The case included a 5th player from Australia who admitted placing more than 1,100 bets on fixed matches in Ukraine.

It is a pity and a waste of talent. Corruption must stay out of every sport.
