For anyone who needs a laugh:

Interwetten announced today:
Taxation of Sports Betting

Important Notice to all customers residing in Germany:

Taxation of Sports Betting

As reported in our terms, is on 7/1/2012 in the Federal Republic of Germany entered an updated version of the racing and betting legislation in force.

As of 01/07/2012 are subject to all the bets that are made by customers who are resident or ordinarily resident in Germany on sports betting, a tax of 5%.
Interwetten is legally obligated as of this date, 5% of your sports betting operations directly paid to the competent German tax authorities. Bets on casino and skill games are not affected by this new regulation. We thought a lot about how we can carry this excessive tax burden, without our longtime customers and new fans spoil the fun of playing.

Sports betting is our

As a provider with outstanding odds, fast payouts and a high degree of protection for our players a lump comes from your use of the question. However, we need to pass on the additional tax burden now, at least partially to our customers. To this end, we keep all winnings to be obtained from us, a share of 5% a. That is to say:

Only if you win, we allow ourselves to flip a minimal contribution to cover the tax burden on you. Our rates are still available in a known Interwetten quality on the market. As your preferred supplier, we are any differences to the actual tax burden to cover out of pocket. From our perspective, we meet in this way best serves the trust you place in us, and get you in the future the fun of online entertainment.

Your Interwetten team
Let´s look at this.
Bets on casino and skill games are not affected by this new regulation.

Casino and skill games are prohibited by the new law, so it isn´t allowed to offer them at all  > they break the law
However, we need to pass on the additional tax burden now, at least partially to our customers. Only if you win, we allow ourselves to flip a minimal contribution to cover the tax burden on you.
A minimal contribution? An example: someone places a combo bet of 10€ and wins 10.000€. The tax would be 0,50€ for that bet. But what Interwetten does, is they take 5% of the 10.000€ (500€) which makes a nice extra profit of 499,50€. They don´t partially burden the tax to their customers, they actually earn extra profit with it.

I doubt they pay the tax anyway, when I look at their criminal behaviour. ::)

Hmmm, very interesting points MX.
Are you sure that the 5% shit is only on bets placed and not on winnings?

Yes it´s only on bets placed, but Interwetten takes 5% of the winnings when someone wins and 0% if they lose their bet. So they pay the tax theirselves as long as someones loses. Nevertheless they give 100% of the tax cost to their customers, when you look at the example with a combo bet. Additionally you can´t place bets on games with odds of 1.1 or lower since today.

edit: I did the maths wrong. Actually it makes no difference if they take 5% of the winnings or the stake.

stake 10€
odds of 1000
=10.000€ -500€ tax = 9.500€ winnings

stake 9,5€ (-0,50€ tax)
odds of 1000
=9.500€ winnings

its the same but in that case they should take the 5% in advance and before the bet is settled...anyway it shoulds crazy and what happens in case you place on bet 100 euro in odds 2 and win 100 euro and after that place 5 bets and lose?at the end you will lose but you will be taxed at the same time as a winer

Interwetten are really con artists. They've closed my account, I could only play casino, skills.... their answer was that they don't offer betting in my country any more. At the same time my friends were been able to open the account and bet.

Pinnacle and Marathon are still accessable and don´t charge any tax. Bet365 and Unibet take 5% tax. Betvictor no idea, but anyway they were only worth 3 arbs and your account would have been closed.

Looks like they're doing their strategy also to get more profit. I guess it's not about tax only.
