Bookmakers asking for proof of income

188bet started this tactic 4-5 years ago. My understanding is that they did it only to pro gamblers that took sharp lines no matter if they won big or small. That was their tactic to kick away sharp action.
That is correct. I should add that they accepted a number of complaints back then and they decided not to pursue this policy any more: bookmakersreview.com/bookmaker-news/188bet-stop-asking-players-proofs-income/44249
Of course, as I know from personal experience 188bet resumed this action it at least a year ago.
Now, asking for a proof of income shouldnt be an issue.
I'm not so sure...

Bookmakers asking for proof of income

If it's legal money (whether from betting, arbitrage, inheritance, etc) he should be able to prove it. If not, he is in trouble.
Bookmakers must have AML procedures in place.
That from WillHill: williamhillplc.com/corporate-responsibility/customers.aspx (check Anti-money laundering section)

Anyway, they should perform these checks before accepting deposits, not after losing 50k and trying to withdraw.

Bookmakers asking for proof of income

The proof of income request is spreading like a fire to bookmakers outside the UK too. Many times it is triggered from sharp action and not from any threshold the player reached.

Forgive my ignorance, but is there any off line bookmaker asking for proof of income? I have been in a shop with a 5 digit sum to place a bet and it was accepted business as usual.

All right, here is the story. Maybe you are right to say that off line bookmakers are not asking for SOW, but a shop owner in Greece told me his shop was stormed by the tax authorities and they were looking for HIS SOW, not the client's. His shop is a rather big one with a lot of volumes.
