Is Arbing Legal?

Thu Jan 08, 2015 4:42 pm

Hi all,

Just recently started arbing and only recently found this forum - which is a gold mine of great info btw!

I have been arbing for less than a week now and I have some considerations. Obviously, arbing is legal - so we are told. But how much money can someone make by legally arbing? I have made a modest amount over the past few days or so and things are going well - I am doing nothing illegal, either. Currently I am:
  • Betting on top European leagues, NBA, NHL etc to avoid being limited too early.
  • Betting with some known bookmakers that are legal within the UK.
  • Betting under my own ID.
However, it appears to me that my accounts will be banned/limited before long. After using my own intuition, reading on here and simply using my brain, it is obvious that I will have to do the following in order to remain profitable;
  • Use a VPN & broker to access Pinny, SBO etc.
  • Use another person's, or a fake, ID.
Now, I may be missing something here, but the two above things are illegal, correct? This means that moneys can be confiscated, accounts closed, legal action etc. Unlikely, very unlikely, I know.

Is there anyone that makes a decent wage through arbing and doesn't break the law? Am I thinking too basic here - do I have to be more creative?

Would love to chat with anyone on the topic, also. Feel free to PM me if you are relatively new to arbing and would like to spitball some ideas.

Chris.

arbing is 100% legal

the techniques you decide or not to do to prolong your arbing life are entirely up to you, they are your business,
you will fail if your attempt is to have people discussing breaking the law, just read the forum, the answer to almost
every question is in there somewhere.

I have never broken the law as an arber.

yeah - not trying to have people incriminating themselves.

Just looking for some inspiration as I cannot think of how I will last past my first round of accounts being limited - without breaking the law.

Thanks for your response mate - will continue to dissect the forums.

If not fake IDs, then surely this would mean friends and family.

This cannot guarantee a perpetual salary from arbing - at least I don't have that many friends ha!

Hi Stoneleigh91 and welcome to the forum.
There is a single and concrete answer to the question ''Is Arbing Legal?'' Sure it is legal, no matter what some bookmakers are saying. Taking the best odds around is not an illegal thing. Exploiting bookmaker's mistakes is not an illegal thing.
Now, lets go to the other questions.
-Use of VPN and brokers to access Pinnacle and SBO. This depends on where you come from. If the regulation of your country has no issue with agents and bookmakers then there is nothing illegal in this case. Not to mention VPNs. I have never heard of any country forbidding the use of VPNs. On the other hand, if you come from a country where legislation is not allowing you to bet with Pinnacle, SBObet and agents, then indeed it is illegal to bet there. For example...to me, it is crystal clear that you are not allowed to bet with these bookmakers if you live in the US or the UK. Period. On the other hand, if you live somewhere in Europe or Asia, you will be able to bet with these bookmakers. However, it all depends on your nationality, the country you live, travel or taxed from. Very complicated.
Use another person's ID. It depends on where you live again, the T&Cs of the bookmaker that you want to use and a number of other factors. Most probably it is illegal.
Use a fake ID. This is illegal everywhere in this planet. I strongly advise you not to do it.
As you see, most things are dependent on where you come from. Also, a lot of things depends on your will to evolve as an arber/trader and make it a real job for you.

this statement is completely wrong.
Go on arbing, you will get better and you figure out how to make loads of profit.
You dont need that many friends and friends are easier to make once you have money :)

Of course, the more money you have, the more friends you can buy, despite de fact that if you are "buying" them, they are not really your friends  ;D , you can think of them as associates instead of friends

First of all, arbing is legal but softbooks treat it like something illegal.

About fake ids, you should avoid this at all costs. Arbing with fake ids or using other people's ids is not legal. You may ask your friends to open an betting account or use their account but they must be aware of this situation. Whatever you do, stay %100 legal. Don't make fake documents. If bookie asks for any additional documents, you (or your friend) should be able to provide necessary documents. Some bookmakers may ask you to make one withdrawal (usually first one) to your bank account. This way, they make sure the account owner is a real person. Some bookmakers asks you to take a photo of you with holding your id next to your face, very humilating in my opinion.

Very unlikely? Well, it happens. You may ran into a scam book refuses to pay your winnings. One bookie may void your bets or suspend/close your account. It happens. Unfortunately, accidents like these exist in the nature of this job. These are the risks of arbitrage business.

Even though betting with unregulated bookmakers may be illegal in most EU countries I think in the UK it is not. This is the correct attitude in my opinion. It is really unfair to incriminate the players. No one has really dared to fine the players though but in countries like Sweden betting with unregulated bookies means you might have to pay taxes. Some poker players have. The biggest problem is that you can't easily use the money for a large purchase or bring it to a local bank.

Confiscating money is like taking the law in your own hands. A lot more effective than suing the player, especially when it's not so clear what kind of law he broke.

I've never broken the law as an arber too, I already used ID's that were not mine but all with the consent of the person concerned.
As Yngwie/Sawyer said, some bookmakers asks you to take a photo of you holding your id next to your face, very humiliating in my opinion too.
This has happened to me, should be considered a crime to do this. Not to mention the bookies that confiscate money... they do everything to complicate our life, but I like that, it gives me more pleasure when I outsmart them!
Stay focused and never give up!

i also like that theory, who was it who told it on this forum? that bookies also have a term in their T&C stating basically you can authorize other people to bet with your account. That the bets will stand, say if I come to your home and you are logged into bet365 and i make a bet while you go to the toilet.... the bet will stand... makes sense ...

so using this theory one could probably make a good defense if some district attorney decided to try and nail us ....

well unless you're faking ids, that's a whole different story, and this is how they got the guy with 5700 fake ids or how many? but if you don't fake it's not even identity theft like some would like us to believe.
