Bet365 confirmed it will open a new operations-led office in Malta. So far Bet365 runs a small marketing office there but seems the expansion goes far beyond marketing as reports say some 1000 personnel will move to the Mediterranean island. Bet365 didn't confirm the number.
Bet365 already holds both a Gibraltarian and a Maltese license.
There is a lot of discussion in regards to the motives behind this decision. Some say that they want to safeguard the company from Brexit implications as the EU will treat Gibraltar as the same entity with the UK.
In the past, we have seen a number of exchanges and bookmakers running very specific trading operations from Malta. An operations-led office should be dealing with trading mainly and the number of personnel is really high. I can only speculate that they might be preparing something brand new. A surprise maybe?

Re: Bet365 expanding to Malta for a reason
Hard to tell, but it seems sensible that they want a location for EU business ahead of Brexit and Malta seems to be best country for a gambling business to do that.
Maybe another reason is that Gibraltar is just too small and possibly too expensive to run a large business with lots of employees?

That's very interesting. I'm wonder is this will not affect their UK licenses?

No reason for that. A bookmaker can operate under several licenses.golem77 wrote: That's very interesting. I'm wonder is this will not affect their UK licenses?
