Is Betfair dead?
What happened with Betfair liquidity last weeks/days is madness. I noticed liquidity decrease last months but what's going on atm is just unbelieveable. Did they give up on Exchange completely? Any decent alternatives? Heard about other exchanges but I don't know if they are even worth a hassle.

Re: Is Betfair dead?
It has got really bad lately hasnt it. Even big matches have price gaps, and the amounts traded are half what they were even 2 years ago. Also its overrun with bots, can never offer even a good price without it immediately being trumped by the hordes of £2 bots.. If you queue for a price you wait forever as the cross matcher puts worse offers on the other side before you so it can steal money from the trades.
It would be so nice to see a decent competitor emerge!

Re: Is Betfair dead?
I used to trade there but it's impossible anymore. I don't even talk about less popular games, barely something matched. Quite few games before 4pm when you have a look at today's schedule but just one of them more than 1k euro matched :/ This is insane. I tried to trade inplay last weekend but finally gave up and went out for a beer, when there are loads of games live it's even worse, crap liquidity if you can call liquidity when you see - let's say - evens on back and 2.72 on lay same time.
Still opportunities to make money there but it's tough now not even compared to how BF was even months ago.
Let's set up our own exchange Seriously don't know what's wrong with them. Keeping exchange busy = easy money and you don't have to care about sharps. I guess it must have something to do with other softs and industry. Maybe the industry want to get rid of sharps so only mugs deliver them cash with a smile on their faces...

Re: Is Betfair dead?
It is the regulation all over the world that makes Betfair's volumes going down. It is Betfair's business decision not to challenge any country's regulation.
In addition to all that, there is immense pressure so Betfair's services do not spread under anyone's mask.
''Decent competitors emerge''? I m sorry, I don't see anyone there.

It's even worse with horse racing markets, in play is practically dead. There's lot of discussion going on on BF forum about this

There are no doubt, and in-play it's even worse. If you want liquidity in-play is better Cititbet, saving the differences...

Maybe the industry is just in decline, not in the States but in the UK and Europe.

Inplay on most sports its just one or 2 bots copying B365 odds but shaving off 10 -20%.

Re: Is Betfair dead?
Probably inevitable longterm - premium charge killed any notion they wanted to be genuine p2p, then the merger with one of the softest books around.

BTW, Betfair is celebrating the 10th anniversary of premium charges this year.
It might be time for them to rethink.

I think this has been the worst ever Sat for liquidity in all but the biggest soccer games. Seems to get worse every week, at this rate it will be dead by next year!

Complicated.
Re: Is Betfair dead?
Be careful with that as the price includes Paddy Power betting firm as well. First you have to see what % of business is conducted by Betfair alone.geetz wrote: Its about time to start shorting BF stocks!

Re: Is Betfair dead?
I think I wiped out everyone on betfair on the Denmark v Wales match 2 weeks ago. Most people were thinking Denmark would be sending out a team of amateurs but in the end the 1st team played. Made a small fortune on that match. Traded Wales 2 ---> 1.44 and then Denmark 9 ---> 2.1.
