Brazilian tennis player Matos lifetime banned for match fixing

Professional Brazillian tennis player, Diego Matos received a lifetime ban from tennis after being convicted of multiple match-fixing.
Matos, ranked 373rd in the ATP rankings, has also been fined a total of 125,000 USD while being ordered to pay back winnings of 12,000 for match-fixing linked to several tournaments in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Ecuador, Portugal, and Spain. It is estimated that 10 matches were fixed.

A lot of these low level players travel around making a living from fixing - you look at the prizemoney they're making, it's peanuts compared to travel/hotel costs - he's 31 with career earnings of $57k. They can make a little extra coaching and being hitting partners etc, but it doesn't remotely add up.

For example, take last year, he made a total of $8848 prize money. Taxes eat a chunk of that, and yet he managed to play in Portugal, Greece (3 weeks), Israel, Nigeria, Brazil, Sri Lanka (3 weeks), Ecuador (2 weeks), Portugal, Spain, Portugal, Nigeria, Portugal, Italy, Tunisia, and Cameroon.

You are very right with your analysis. Somehow I see lower-ranked players losing extremely easy when they play with bigger names, or making an upset when they play with each other. Something is wrong with tennis really.
