when are odds released?
« on: January 04, 2020, 07:17:14 PM »

hello,
I am trading mostly tennis and to get the most value possible fresh odds are necessary.
My problem is that I don't really know when odds are released. I am betting on black (BetInAsia) so the asian bookies would be interesting.
I already googled quite a lot but didn't find anything.

Its never at a certain time with any book, its whenever the trader releases them, or for most books copies them!

It would actually be strange if odds were always released at a fixed time, because there are so many things that may govern when the odds are released. Apart from what dealer wins already mentioned, it may also depend upon whether it is a business day whereever the book is based, the size of the sport event and market, moneyline odds or secondary lines etc.

It doesn't mean that you are completely clueless though. If you find it worth your time, you may start studying when odds are released for the type of sport and tournaments you're interested in. Some odds comparison sites let's you go back in time and see when odds were first detected, although this information may not completely coincide with the actual odds release time. I am quite sure that you will find some kind of pattern. A more technical solution would be to have a webscraper "listening" to the site's source code alarming you when the odds are released.

I have an example of what I have done in a particular case: I found that one of the national bookmakers in my country has kind of a mixed scheme. Some odds are set by themselves and others are just relayed from various common sources. How do I know? I have noticed that odds from some of the national leagues are unique and they are always released only during regular business hours and never at national holidays. In one particular tournament, I consider this bookmaker to have the world's sharpest odds, so I do really want to know when the odds are released such that I can place bets at other bookmakers if the odds differ too much. The expert employee who sets these odds is apparently no morning person, because odds are always released after lunch time. So that's the only time I look, at business days after lunch. At least now, the expected odds release is narrowed down to a specific period.

You might be right here, but there are 2-3 bookmakers who are very punctual when releasing odds. They are so punctual with an accuracy of seconds. Some years ago, it was 10-15 bookmakers being punctual but many people were ambushing them in the corner.

As far as I know, opening odds are usually released around a week before the match is due to start and are based on  all the information that is currently available to the bookies
