Personally, switched to poker 100%, no-brainer decision.
In times like these, I understand the importance of being multi-talented, being able to operate in various markets.
Could someone say how is it going with bots these days?
Pokerstars is doing best job regarding that, Partypoker also, since Rob Young took over, that guy is really passionate about poker.
That would be the order of recommendation if someone was to start playing, negative thing about Stars is low rakeback, but you will start with solid rakeback as a beginner, they cut it down to 2.1% only if you win in long term. HUD's allowed, but no notecaddy, no seating scripts, some advanced stats banned from HUD's also, so regs can't fully exploit beginners.
Partypoker has good rakeback scheme, but no HUD allowed. On the other side, since they banned HUD's game became softer, it was definitely hardest pool while HUD's were allowed, now it's maybe little harder than stars. If you don't want to invest in tracking software - Partypoker is the choice.
Ipoker network, known as soft in past times is a botfest. It seems like they don't even care. They allow everything - HUD's, seating scripts, Notecaddy, they will only intervene if chip dumping is noticed, as it's easy to detect and they have to because of AML. I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner, you will be targeted from regs with advanced tools.
888 - soft pool also, HUD allowed but not at speed tables, software is little weird, behind the curve I'd say.
Winning, Chico (Betonline) - in theory it would be cool playing against Americans, but lots regs from Eastern Europe operate there. Winning allows HUD, Chico has it's own simple HUD with some basic stats. There are HUD tools that Chico officially bans, but some players use it without being caught, I don't personally so no 1st hand experience.
Microgaming - old school grinders love it, but to be honest, software is way behind the curve. No HUD's allowed, games are solid, semi soft, but whole network is shutting down in May and most skins will transfer to Ipoker (probably)
There are other options, for instance 5dimes (most of you probably have account there) has very low traffic room, but games are soft, you can easily play one table to have some fun in these days without sports.
Some Asian networks became popular recently, also some poker clubs from there designed for mobile phones only, but grinders still play it using emulators. Wouldn't recommend those for beginners either.
So, recap, for beginners (or some of you that played poker back in the days) I'd pick between Stars and Party.
If you haven't played for a while, games became harder, but still beatable. Definitely start with lowest stakes possible, just for fun, see how it goes.
