Looking to find groups that lobby against bookmakers
« on: October 13, 2020, 08:13:35 AM »

Hello all, I've been thinking about this for quite a while now and am interested in seeing what some of the opinions of Arbusers are.

A couple of days ago a big uk bookie closed my account in quite a strange way to me. From what I can gather, I entered my password a couple of times, and from this my account became frozen. When I then contacted them I was told my account would be closed.

I was as limited as limited could be with them, so no great loss. But I find this kind of operation very disappointing. I really believe some sort of minimum bet is a fair rule for these types of bookmakers, even if its very small. There are various other problems I've experienced with books like this, and I would be interested to know if anyone would know of a group or groups of people that maybe make certain issues with books public on social media and the like.

It's not something that has a particularly focused agenda in terms of policy. Although I have my personal opinions about minimum bets and what not, I'm generally just interested in putting pressure on major books in one of the areas they are strong but also insecure, that of public relations. Advertising and social media can be as powerful as ever and I think with the right people it is possible for us to make books uncomfortable similar to how they try to make us feel regularly. Thanks for any input good or bad.

Just in case you haven't come across this kook : https://justiceforpunters.org/

I don't know how active the site is.
Can't help thinking this sort of stuff is a waste of time though.

What would be your reason for doing this? Seeking justice for others or personal gains?

Regardless of whether such an endeavour would make books "uncomfortable", would your personal gains be enough to justify the time spent and the frustrations that may follow along the road?

If you still think it is worth it, you may consider that the books take "business protective" measures within the boundaries set by your country's gambling regulatory authority. The agenda of these authorities is to ensure that gambling is conducted in a fair and transparent manner, so if you think that bookmakers do not adhere to this agenda, maybe the lobby should concentrate on "fair and transparent gambling" for gambling in general, instead of it being a 1 on 1 attack against books.

You asked for some of the opinions from the users. Here's mine:
There has always been profitable bettors and therefore there always will be. I am grateful for the existence of the books. The measures they take to protect their business are obvious and necessary. I wan't them to succeed and I want the punters to continue having fun gambling. I cherish the continued growth of the gambling industry. The well-being of punters and books is a prerequisite of my well-being.
