Facial recognition ATMs against gambling crime

Well, you know China. They are communists. They now install facial recognition ATMs to stop gambling crime, they say. They started from places near casinos like Macau but they will continue in all the country. How do you find their excuse?

I believe that is a different think. ATM facial recognition will be a problem for more people and not just gamblers.
I remember the first time I was requested to pass a facial recognition and it felt very much intrusive. People that have to pass this process will not like it, even if they have absolutely nothing to hide. Bookmakers will have to think twice before implementing it, because they will instantly lose clients.

In the past we have seen many attempts to use facial recognition practices in many gambling related facilities and especially land casinos. Guess what, it resulted to lawsuits that casinos won. However, as you say, this is China, they are communists and they don't have to worry about going to a court. But at the same time, it is very much worrying that communistic mentality in spreading in the West like a fire. I will make a bold prediction, while I am wishing to be wrong. Facial recognition ATMs will storm Europe and the West in less than 5 years from now.

I remember that it felt very intrusive when bookmakers first started to ask for selfie ID and now it's a common practice.  It is sad to say but in time people will get used to biometric identification, even at a sportsbook.

Do you have any ideas if ATMs in Europe are equipped with cameras? Do they take a photo of you when you withdraw money from the machines? I have seen some ATMs with a screen and when you go there the screen is showing your face, but do they record anything?
Strange questions I know.
Thanks.

Everything is showing us that cameras will be on every corner like in China,5G tehnology is giving them option to track us in real time and have so much controle in our lives, dont be suprised if we see something simmilar what China have with social points and 24/7 surveilance of our lives on all possible ways.People in power like to have people under control and tehnology is giving them more and more ways to do it easily and instant.

Yes, almost all ATMs have cameras this days. They do record but it depends from bank to bank how many days they keep their recordings. A bank employee told me their bank kept the records five days and than they were deleted. The problem is since i am an IT guy i know ways you can retrieve recordings from an Hard Drive even after they are deleted.

Surveillance is already there in all Europe and America. Every business already has a camera. Problem is with government attitude and i dont think the west will go towards China ways. I think they will go in opposite direction. We will see the ideology gap between east and west become stronger in the coming years. People are becoming more conscious of their privacy in the west. Problem is not with the cameras and tools but with how they are being used.
Turning to the point of this thread i dont think bookies will do this step anytime soon. At least not in one decade. People are not comfortable with this and they would lose a lot of clients. Bookies think in terms of profit and loss when they make a decision. This decision would bring more loss than profit at least for now that people have not yet turned into total sheep.
