New exchange EasyBet.net coming soon.

Wed Oct 30, 2024 7:50 am

Media reports that a new exchange is on its way to go public soon. Here is what we know so far:

EasyGroup, the brand behind the low cost airline EasyJet founded by Stelios Haji-Ioannou, a Greek Cypriot entrepreneur, is now entering the sports betting industry with the launch of easyBet.net in cooperation with Matchbook, a well known and established betting exchange.

The above are confirmed by both Matchbook's CEO Malcolm Graham and Easy's founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou with public statements. The new venture is about to build an exchange that will allow bettors to bet directly against each other, in a peer-to-peer betting exchange

The easyBet website is already live, however, it is not yet operational. A seal from the Alderney Gambling Control Commission is displayed, meaning that a license from the Channel Islands is already in place. Skrill, Neteller, and VISA are there as payments options, but not cryptos.

There are rumours circulating EasyBet will only offer sports betting and politics, with no plans to offer casino games yet. Matchbook has strengthened its compliance and regulation practices these recent years, following a 2020 suspension of its operating license by the UK Gambling Commission that lasted for 6 months and ended with a fine of £740,000. These last years, Matchbook invested in a new managerial and legal support teams.

It is believed that Matchbook is now owned by Zeljko Ranogajec, an Australian-born smart bettor and by the nickname of “The Joker”. Matthew Benham, a gambling entrepreneur who also owns Brentford FC, still keeps a minority part of shares.

We hope it ends up well, as the gambling sphere urgently needs new exchanges and serious bookmakers. We also hope it becomes something better than Matchbook, because a clone of Matchbook will not offer anything more to the ecosystem. We will report for anything new.

Hopefully Easybet won't become just a Matchbook's white label using Matchbook's liquidity. In such case I see no benefit in using them.

I just checked easybet website. They have the same liquidity, the same markets and even almost the same interface as Matchbook. So it is a 100% matchbook clone. I wonder what's the point of creating a matchbook clone? If you have an access to matchbook, you won't get any benefits using easybet. If you don't have an access to Matchbook, you will probably have no access to easybet either. So what's the idea?

When I wrote this article this morning, the website was only offering generic information. Maybe they weighted for my article to go live and present odds. Who knows!

Only for England and Ireland residents. What's the point?

If it becomes another Matchbook clone, then the point is only ''marketing''.
We will see.
