PC monitor damage

Thu Jun 03, 2021 7:29 pm

I accidently knocked my PC monitor over and it knocked against the edge of the desk. There is a very slight pressure mark/bruise right in the middle of the screen. Anyone know if it is possible to fix it please? It's only a very small mark but really annoying. I searched google for a fix but to no avail.

If it is an LCD screen, you may replace just the screen panel, anyway often it is more expensive or the same price as to just buy a new monitor. Monitors nowadays or any screen actually, are not meant to last, sadly if you damage them in any way you just have to buy new one

Yeah thanks. It's not that badly damaged so I will live with it. Best to eventually buy myself a new monitor instead of repair as screen cost is more than half the price of an entire new one.

If it's in relatively good condition try to bargain, return it to the shop from where you got it at half the price or they to repair it if it's in really good condition and damage is visible as few dead pixels they will replace it as part of product warranty agreement

A bit off-topic here in this thread.

The quality of the monitors you have is somewhat of an investment in your well-being. At the same time, this quality is not critical to your profits directly, so the monitors are only peripheral hardware that helps your intellectual product to be processed.
At the centre of the working system (hardware and so on) should be your Mind. This Mind creates endless algorithms, makes many observations, does many experiments, creates and improves an infinite number of different things, etc.
Do you remember the monochrome CRT small-inch monitors created for the floppy-equipped 8-bit "Apple II" computer and its clones? What is the difference between them and modern HiTech monitors for the comfort of the human eyes and the relaxation of the Mind? And so on...
Therefore, building a working IT infrastructure for professionals should be designed and based on the human Mind and its comfort during the creation of its intellectual product. The emphasis here is on body comfort and the absence of fatigue over many thousands of hours in real working conditions so that the physical distraction caused by this fatigue is minimized. The reflections of the lights, fatigue of the wrists, neck and spine to be avoided, etc.

A.A. Milne's principle "The more - the merrier" is only valid when infrastructure design is based on the comfort of mind, therefore self-serving expensive investments in professional IT technologies logically do not produce a positive EV in the long term. For example, let's imagine a naturally talented Mind living in a poor country, working in a completely different field, but at midnight, after a hard day's work, she/he spots a perfect mix of markets through his low-budget infrastructure. And so on. Imagine this talented Mind lives in a rich country with no financial constraints, how many monitors will she/he use and what is the rationale here? 1? 15? Why? A poor-quality monitor used by someone who knows what to look for? 15 high-quality monitors used by the same talented person? Or used by those who waste their lives? "The more the merrier" vs wasting the resources?

In this opinion here in this thread, the basic concept of the nature of the human Mind is not defined. The nature of the Force behind the human Mind is a very long topic and a deep understanding of the forces behind it has been debated for millennia by the philosophers of ancient civilizations. So, the core of things may be elsewhere, who knows?

That’s a great thought!

As a programmer, I feel very much the same about productivity tools (Slack, Monday), methodologies (scrum, agile), and even IDEs.

Some things are useful, some of the time, sure. But simplicity is extremely underrated.

Hello Ex-hft,

I totally agree here.
Let's share something else. I've personally experienced setting trigger positions via a small phone display when doing different other work activities or even at a party (for seconds if the strong triggers occur).
And usually concentrated trading in a special place, full of monitors.
But the efficiency human factor is more important, not the technology.

Also, I think a large number of software products of all kinds are installed and set up for most average users and mainly for standard use. So very specific settings for very specific needs are hard to set up at a good price point.
For some skilled users, the workaround is to use the power of the Terminal (CLI), not the GUI. But that's valid for some limited cases and probably not for specific software.
Sometimes good ideas don't exist at all (for that price of software) or don't work properly. See the software issue threads here in the forum regarding scanning and alerting services.
So, the huge latent demand for much better quality software versus possible partially DIY solutions from some capable customers?

Let's make a fictional analogy, just replace the hardware described below with a software product:

Imagine that a user is pursuing a specific task to construct improved technologies of some kind (suspension, gearbox, engine, braking system, etc.).
The first subtask here is to explore a very specific and extremely difficult section of the speedway, let's say 1 percent of its length.

The second subtask is to explore the remaining 99 percent of the track length, covering 99 percent of the events that normally occur on technical systems accordin' to Statistics.

Suppose that if the first task is successfully solved, it will contribute to the improvement of technology more than task two.

Imagine that the agency offers this user a well-calibrated TVR Griffith suitable for Task 2.
Unfortunately for Task 1, the desired Shelby Cobra cannot be offered for some reason. They offer to upgrade that TVR or even offer a Jensen Interceptor, but for some reason, the customer only needs the spec covered by the Cobra.

So, the user has to come up with something brand new or find some workaround solution…

Finally, in this fictional story, I can replace the aforementioned hardware with approaches to constructing new algorithms. Here I mean the popular ones and also the ones invented by some people due to latent demand.

Ex-hft, I hope that helps you. I wish you lots of profits. :)

Hello Campeones,

Glad to see people like you and tens of other arbusers, sharing their valuable opinions here in the intelligent forum. I personally learn a lot from everyone's experiences and appreciate it when people share their opinions. Everyone is unique in their own way.

Please excuse my style, I'm just expressing some of my views, whether they're wrong or right, seeking my path of evolution. I believe the mission of the forums is for all users to grow together by sharing experiences in an appropriate manner. In some threads I have already stopped posting, I don't want to talk only to myself.

I believe in Information Theory by Claude Shannon (predecessor of John Kelly). I aim for the density of the transmitted information, as well as the multi-level information flow. Thousands of years ago in an ancient country called Hellas (well-documented) and elsewhere in the World (not so well-documented), the Info and the Logic (based on it) were honored and valued. Let's protect them from modern madness!

Rather, I don't prefer a Twitter or TikTok-style shortest response when valuable information can be lost in the transmission process.
I'm neither aiming for popularity nor selling anythin' here, but I will be happy if I have helped even one person here to develop in some way.

Naturally, I won't divulge details and jeopardize my business! But some posts maybe convey additional levels, much more information than meets the eye.

Campeones, thank you for the good words again, wish you a lot of profits. All the forum members salute your activity in that smart forum, me too. :)

Your posts are for the highest level of members. Many times I catch my self being unable to understand and I have to dig in further in order to be able to follow. Some times I m not even sure what to reply as there is always the fear of being off topic.
Keep up the good work.
