Hello everyone,
I watch horse racing through Betfair, Bet365, and Racing TV, all via streaming. I’d like to know if there’s any way to get a feed with less delay, as I always seem to be slightly behind.
I have been working in tennis and football trading for many years, and now I also want to specialize in UK and Irish horse racing, as they have the most liquidity. The feeds I use are not bad in terms of timing, but they always have a delay of 4 to 7 seconds… and I’ve realized that in horse racing, everything happens extremely fast. This often means that I can’t enter my trades on time.
Additionally, I use the Bet Angel ladder, but it's very difficult to catch a good price because of the delay.
I’d like to know if there is any service, even a paid one, such as a satellite feed, that provides live images with less latency.
Thanks to the community!

Re: Delay in Race Feeds for UK & Ireland Horse Racing
As long as I recall, in-play horse racing delay time is 3 sec. It is not possible for you to be 4 sec behind, especially for UK racetracks. You will get robbed in no time.
Just give a try to old-school courtsiding - go to the tracks/stadiums, watch and observe. Open your phone and just the odds and time the market. Follow the cables/trucks and you may get to the technical stuff. I learnt crucial details from tech guys, and prefer not to share them in public. Come on be curious, do it, you will get your answers for sure. Just visit different venues - volleyball matches, basketball, field hockey, etc.
And yes, horseracing has its own peculiarities, especially for broadcasting. But again - you have to find it for yourself.

I understand that you keep that information strictly confidential.
But just knowing that it is indeed possible to reduce the delay is enough.
I will keep searching. Thanks for the response.

Re: Delay in Race Feeds for UK & Ireland Horse Racing
even the BF feed is behind? that is surprising. The race goes in-play on BF before the race 'begins' on the video?
I bet the US races on Orbit and in-play starts exactly when the race begins (I watch on RTN). I will check a UK race on BF vs. RTN to see if there's any difference.
I just watched the Wolverhampton race on BF and RTN. The race began several seconds earlier on BF than RTN. The very weird thing though was it did not go In-play until about 8 seconds into the race. So that's completely backwards. In this case, a bettor would have an 8 second opportunity to take the BSP for the leading horse before the BSP was established.
Betting in-play with even a 2 second delay would be impossible, unless you bet before the jockey's make their move. As I understand (via reading and watching), UK races (other than short AW races) are much different than US races, the jockey's tend to hold back until late in the race. All the key action takes place late. So a couple second delay , if betting was done before the late moves by the jockeys, might be acceptable. But certainly not late in the race. Timing is everything for in-play

Re: Delay in Race Feeds for UK & Ireland Horse Racing
I briefly used a drone feed, but I don't think it'll give you a great edge (or haven't found it myself yet). It was the same speed as Racing TV, just a different angle. I was slightly faster in racecourses that are broadcast by Sky, but the angle was bad most of the times and the image was blurry, so you couldn't really see the horse.
I'd like to point out that the drone feed was a reshare one, so many more traders received it making difficult to get an advantage. Good drone feeds are very expensive (I've read they can charge you a few hundred £ per day) and are super hard to find. Plus, it'll be very difficult to beat court siders, since they have their bets already in the market and they just cancel our the positions they don't want.
What I noticed is that most of the times the market will tell you the direction it'll go. For instance, if you see a lay order of 1.5-2K trying to be filled, it's probably a trader faster than you; if you follow the money you can scalp a few ticks. You can also have a look at Total Performance Data, I've read in some forums they can be of great help when people trade in play.

Re: Delay in Race Feeds for UK & Ireland Horse Racing
Isn't it the case that the saddles are equipped with transponders and what not..with the upcoming of AI it seems to me that the inplay market is efficient in real time all the time..
But you can try US racing, the markets reflect almost exactly what you see on the betfair livestream, the liquidity is not that high but you can harness the volatility to good use
Edit: nowadays they are using lasers and cameras, no need for transponders anymore..so since the racing industry is a mafia in itself, I strongly suppose they take advantage of this in inplay markets as well

Hi! I’ve faced similar delays while trading, especially in fast-paced events like horse racing. For a quicker feed, you might want to explore services offering satellite streams. Some platforms like acbet.za.com may provide low-latency options for live betting and trading. Always ensure the service meets your timing needs for better trade execution.
