The Olympic games are officially starting tonight. This thread is dedicated to the XXXIII Olympiad and everyone should feel free to contribute at will.
I hope this Olympiad will not be stained by any kind of madness, fanaticism, or misanthropy. I hope France is able to carry for 17 days and beyond her duties.
Let the Best win.

First round shows team USA being the best by far. LeBron is the king.

Athens 2004. The best ever opening ceremony of Olympic games. A number of symbolisms and allegories that even Greeks are not able to spot. A hymn to love, life and civilisation.
Wasn't expecting the French to perform that poor.

Re: The 2024 Summer Olympics
For those who bet on the Olympics, I would like to make some comments.
1. In every Olympic games, the host nation has the support of the referee. We see that in fencing and basketball already.
2. The US team and athletes enjoy an impunity by referees, but it is not granted when they fight against the host nation.
3. The Chinese will get stronger and stronger in all committees so I expect them to take part of the US impunity in the future, even in these Olympics as well.
4. My betting attention is on certain sports (like javelin) with a tradition of surprises, where the favourites are in the end losing.

Media reports, the IOC decided to allow Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting to compete. Both athletes failed to meet gender eligibility tests at last year’s women’s world boxing championships, prompting the International Boxing Association to disqualify them.
The president of the IBA alleged that the boxers’ chromosome tests came back as XY, which typically is a male trait.
Two-time Olympic gold medallist Claressa Shields said that she wouldn’t stand for competing against opponents who failed such tests. “So, they got men fighting against women in the Olympics boxing! I wouldn’t have stood for no stuff like that!” Shields posted on X.
Khelif is scheduled to compete against Italy’s Angela Carini on Thursday while Lin is set to fight Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova on Friday.

No question about it, men should be kept outside women's sports.
I am not sure about you guys, but my betting in Olympics is very much limited, and most of my betting goes to the Champions League and Europa League qualifications.

Re: The 2024 Summer Olympics
The Olympic games are typically no1. event in my calendar. I love betting so much on women sports - there are moneymaking machines, especially in-play. Just watch the basketball games - you can see the meltdown of a team/player in real time. Spain went through needles ear in their two games.
Other than that - watching women playing sports is quite boring for me.
I think that there should be just women and just men sports. Yes, there are certain aspects of game that are not about winning. Take artistic swimming or rhytmic gymnastics - it is about the art, the beauty and the grace. Beautiful to watch ensambles, the feminine energy all around.
Now imagine a mens team - disgusting. I feel the same watching women in boxing, wrestling, weightlifting etc. If anyone has ever been in a gym sparring with a girl/woman knows that feeling. They hit like a girl... no power, no stamina, no strength. It is no challenge at all, it is even annoying. Men hitting a woman equals lots of damages. It should not happened at all.
Unfortunately Olympic sports became State's politics, a twisted contest of sick bureaucracies.

You are correct and I completely understand what you say. But let me tell you about a phenomenon.
Bettors in the US are enjoying a vast opportunity with the Olympic games. These are the first games covered by the US bookmakers who are testing the waters. The markets covered are immense and the limits offered are unreal for us Europeans.
On the other hand the European bettor is not enjoying the same services. The European bookmakers have been hit in the past and they offer limited markets with ridiculously low limits compared to the US bettor.
I was wondering what is the state of play in South America.
