What Does Asian Lines Mean in Betting?

Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:38 am

For punters who are experienced with betting, there’re many alternative markets that they can use to enhance how they wager, and the main aim is to win more cash. Of the many ways that punters choose, something that's becoming more and more popular is placing wagers on the Asian handicap lines.

Asian Handicap market is something that is used a lot in point-based sports like basketball, tennis, soccer, rugby and ice hockey. It is more popular in soccer and can provide you with massive amounts of cash when you pick the right leagues and matches.

What is Handicap Asian Line?

Asian handicap bets is primarily a fictional line that top sportsbooks in the world create to make wagering on a sporting event more exciting. In football, you can place a wager on the handicap Asian line on any match, though many punters bet on big favourites.

Handicap Asian line gives one team in a game a head start, while the other is at a big disadvantage. So based on the side of the Asian lines betting you choose, you'll have a team that is either – or + a goal or multiple goals.

In Handicap Asian line betting, the score of the match is used. However, you should not forget that the handicap line could change the winner on your wager when the bookies include their handicap scores on the real results. One of the main things that you need to really understand is that you can wager on a team on the Asian line, and it can lose the match, but your bet can still win.

How to Use Handicap Line While Placing Bets

After knowing what a handicap Asian line bet is, it is important to know how to use it. The key to using Asian handicap betting markets correctly is to provide yourself with genuine value on the favourite. Let's take the game of Manchester City against Burnley. Similar to many other punters, you would expect Manchester City to win your bet since they are big favourites.

Instead of backing Manchester City to win the match, in search of betting value, most bettors will back them on a -2 handicap Asian line. This means that Manchester City starts on -2, so to overcome that, it must win by a minimum of three goals to make the handicap bet successful. And for Burnley to emerge the winner on the other side with its +2 start, it needs to either draw, lose your bet or win the match by one goal.

In this example, Manchester City will be at a shot price, something like 1.10 (1/10) to beat Burnley on the home ground on the regular win line. But when it comes to the Asian handicap line, Manchester City will be around 2.00 (1/1) to win the game if the line was set at -2 handicap Asian line.

While Manchester City has to win by a minimum of three goals to make a winning wager, if you strongly believe that this will happen, then this betting market will provide you with a 10x price than what the regular win market will provide.

If you closely study the Burnley Asian handicaps bet in the example above, you will notice that you can use this type of wager to cover many things. If Burnley has a winning bet, ends in a draw or loses the game by a goal, your wager on this team will be a successful one. You'll get smaller odds on Burnley when backing them with the Asian Handicap line advantage, but you open up many other ways for your wager to win the bet.

Different Types of Asian Lines Bets

Asian line betting comes in different types, which include the following:

Asian Handicap Quarter Lines

Asian handicap quarter lines usually end in .75 or .25. Similar to other Asian handicap markets, you’ll be getting a 0.25 goal deficit or start depending on the game odds. Here enters the likelihood of half stake losses or wins depending on the result. Asian handicap quarter lines are by far the best option for punters since they offer competitive odds.

Asian Handicap Half Lines

This is another outcome that can be confusing after the quarter lines. Quite different from the full lines, half lines introduce half goals results. If a football team in a match is available with +0.50, it already has a half goal lead from the start of the game. This means that if the match ends in a tie, your wager wins. On the other hand, a team with a -0.50 Asian line must-win for a wager to be a winner.

Asian Handicap Full Lines

Asian handicap full lines are those with numbers like 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1. In most cases, sportsbooks will present these lines with + for the underdog and – for the favourite. What this means is that the underdog is given a 1 goal lead at the start of the game. For example, let’s take a game of Liverpool (-1.00) against Bournemouth (+1.00). If you think that Liverpool will win by a minimum of 2 goals and a goal start wouldn’t be enough for Bournemouth to win, below is what will happen.

Bournemouth +1.00: win or draw – win, lose by 1 – push, lose by a minimum of 2 goals – lose.

Liverpool -1.00: Win by a minimum of 2 – win, win by 1 – push, draw or lose-lose.

If you are keen, then you have already noticed that a possibility of a tie has been removed from this wager. Should you place a bet on Liverpool to overcome a one-goal start, and they win by a goal, the scores will be level once the Asian handicap full line is applied, and the bet outcome is a push. The push voids the wager, and your full stake will be returned. Your wager is neither a miss nor a win.

Final Thoughts

Many players currently include Asian line bets in their slips. These bets usually come with better odds that significantly boost the winnings. Also, they usually use this type of market when they foresee some teams with a good form to win than expected to get better returns with more risk.

If you are a new punter, then Asian lines markets are a perfect match for you. However, you should first understand the lines as well as the outcomes. The good news is that this article has already provided that.

Asian lines and carious forms of asian handicaps are the things puzzling me more, coming from casino action. I really can't figure out things, and I constantly avoid these arbs and value bets that enable them. I know I am losing much since almost 50% of the best that my alert services show include asian handicaps.
