UK considers gambling tax increase for operators

Mon Oct 14, 2024 1:15 pm

Media reports the UK government is considering a tax increase for gambling operators. Today, the UK remote gaming duty is 21% of operator profits. So far, there is no discussion to tax bettors, however, an increase in the tax of operators will have a negative impact in the odds offered to UK bettors.

The plans of the UK government are expected to be revealed on October the 30th 2024, with the deliver of the Budget, which is the first of the new Labour government. Operator's stock prices are today falling between 8 and 16% in LSE and NYSE.

The Labour Party was expected to be MORE gambling-friendly than the previous Conservative Government. Something went wrong. Anti-gambling campaigners, based on fantasy economics will kill the golden goose starting from horse racing. Let's start the body count.

The UK and especially London are becoming a Muslim emirate with an astonishing speed. Gambling is haram. Gambling industry has nothing good to expect from the UK. Ever wonder why the biggest gambling event moved out from London to Barcelona?

Britain is predicted to be 25% muslim by 2050 due to declining indigenous birth rates and high immigration. By that year gambling will have been banned in Britian.

We have some good news. It seems that logic prevailed at least for now. The Autumn Statement revealed that no tax increases will be applied to the UK Gambling sector.

The UK government is looking for some 40bn in fresh taxes, and was hoping that at least 1bn would come from gambling. However, fierce opposition online, made it clear that the damage to the sector would be asymmetrical to the gains from taxes. The chancellor announced that taxes will be applied to other sectors of the economy, and the UK will become the first country to impose a 50% tax on private jet flights.

What a YoYo for the stock prices of specific industry companies! People with a good crystal ball made fortunes these days.
