Re: using my local betting shops in the UK.
Thanks Homicidehank. I found middlesbourgh at 1.90 on a coral coupon last night. I went to a coral shop to back it after work today, was going to put £300 on it. There was no decimal coupons left and I asked if they were still at 1.90. They looked at the screen above for a bit, not a computer I might add, and said they were at 1.72 this was the on line price as I had checked earlier. On betfair the lay was 1.78. Should I have just filled out a single line for a win on the coupon (if there was one) and ask for 1.90 or would they still give me 1.72? I remember you saying earlier the prices are fixed to a certain extent and it is rare for them to change. Needless to say I just left the shop as I did not want to end up backing a lower price. I am not that familiar with betting shops as I have normally made my bets online. For example on the ladbrokes coupon Hearts are 5.50 against Rangers but the online price is 4.50 and the current lay is 5.40 would they also give me a lower price. What should my process be to try and get the coupon price at the shops.

Re: using my local betting shops in the UK.
You should just fill in the coupon with your stake and hand it in. The bookie will accept the bet un less there has been an advice from head office and then they will more than likely tell you they will accept so much at the coupon price and any more would be at the new price. With the coral situation as you didn't have a coupon they are just quoting you the current price but if you had the coupon they would no doubt take your bet at the coupon price. If there is another corals near to you go and fill the coupon in and hand it in. You were right not to accept the new price as they will be in line with betfair so very hard to make it pay. 1.83 is the best i could find for boro against 1.73 hills and 1.80 ladbrokes. Hearts are 4.50 on my ladbrokes coupon and 5.00 on the local bookies coupon. I can't find them at 5.50 anywhere. I haven't had time for this weekends coupons but i might have a quick look in the morning. good luck

i don't believe that this government will have the ability to discover gamblers from bookmakers all around the worldCretan wrote:Of course you can't. That's what I meant. They do their transactions with papers up to 20£. It's rare to use the 50£ paper. So imagine that you have to cross the street with 250 papers of 20£... Then count them with the bookie's employee. Oh, I'm already so tiredArbusers wrote: You can't break 500 euro bills in the UK. They only accept 200s.
I m waiting to see what chances the antigambling bill in Greece will bring.
Unfortunately, the Greek anti-gambling law refers to the local bookmakers and of course they refer to OPAP's monopoly. No change for this.
Dimosthenis are you so optimist that you will continue arbing after the new law? I'm afraid that we have no chance to arb from Greece. Anyway, that's another (sad but true) story.

Re: using my local betting shops in the UK.
I managed to get through the premier league and championship matches on the coupons this morning and there is a few small arbs and one quite good one. The one worth a mention is peterborough at 8/5 (2.60) with hills. Can be laid on betfair and smarkets at 2.34 at the moment. Obviously smarkets with 2% commission makes it more worthwhile

Re: using my local betting shops in the UK.
The pattern depends on the bookie. Hills now phone through most bets of £100 in all but the biggest shops in my city. I've noticed as well even if you only ask for £200 they may only offer you £100 at the screen advertised odds, down from automatic £500s and £1000s on Premier league from the beginning. Coral depend on the staff but my bet of £250 got phoned right through but the manager himself has happily been accepting my coupon multiples. Ladbrokes had an arb advertised 3.6/3.25, I bet £400 on it and tried to bet on it again in the same shop but the price had been cut to 2/1 immediately. Did let me have £400 on league one in that instance no problem though, they send it to traders on their screens.ethernet wrote: @hank...interesting. But a question for you: is there a pattern as to when they will say, 'we can't accept £500 at the coupon odds, you can have [for example...] £200 at those odds and £300 at our new odds of X'? You said this rarely happens...is the main factor as to when they would do this, the degree to which the lay odds have dropped at Betfair (so, for example, the bookie would say this if the lay odds at betfair have dropped by more than 0.2, but they will leave it if the odds have dropped by anything up to this level...)? is there a rough amount the odds have dropped by that you've noticed, where they will start saying they can only accept 200 or 250 at the original odds? If they are sharp and the till people are saying they can't take the coupon bet when the lay odds at betfair have dropped by a small amount of, say, 0.05 or not much over, that would affect my idea of the feasibility of this.
Incidentally I notice on that last bet you posted about (some time ago, but in this thread), odds of 2.60 vs 2.22 would make a high percentage profit. Maybe you got the 'we'll only take £200 at original odds' patter then/ I guess there's a liquidity problem on some of these coupon bets as the arbs may turn up on more obscure games.
Thanks

No they don't cut at the first shop, when I used to drive around lumping £1000s per shop the line would at least hold until near the end so at a few £100 per shop I can't see you moving the line.
I obviously don't want to divulge all my plays but multiple coupons at the same shop under the limit can get you slightly further not sure about doing it every shop though.
Re: using my local betting shops in the UK.
Not quite, I always ask the screen odds because they don't hold the coupon odds for a penny for me if they don't match the screen odds (in WH in Coral it depends). And the time they cut the odds was a £400 bet on League one, I wouldn't have found an arb that size on the premier league.ethernet wrote: @superdash. It sounds like if you make a moderate bet with coupon odds, say £200 and they only take £100 at the coupon odds (saying you have to have the other £100 at their screen odds), then, it's not going to work going to a different betting shop (with the same company) to try and get another £100 on at the coupon odds...because the company may have adjusted their approach to that event after your first bet. Would that be your experience?
On the other hand Hank was suggesting that going to another shop to get more money on at the coupon odds, might work. I'm sure it varies from event to event and occasion to occasion, but it would good to know if there's a pattern here that you've detected. I'd be particularly interested in bets where the odds difference is around say 0.1 point (eg, 1.91 on the coupon, and 1.81 if you lay it). At around 0.1, the return starts to make a trip to the bookie maybe worthwhile, I'm thinking...you can make money on a 0.05/0.06 difference, sure, but less...
Thanks, if you are able to feed in more here. Guess I might have to try things out...

Re: using my local betting shops in the UK.
Next time I am visiting the UK, maybe I will try this coupon arbing. I have a Scottish friend, they have pointed out a good thread on the UK's MoneySavingExpert forum, about placing shop arbs in the UK. It is at: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=3203174&highlight=sharbing
