Even if the player doesn’t score first but still manages to score during the match you will still win something.

Re: What does each way mean in football betting first goalscorer?
In football betting, an each-way bet on the first goalscorer is a bet that splits your stake into two parts:
a. First Goalscorer Bet: This part of the bet is on the player to score the first goal in the match.
b. Place Bet: This part of the bet is on the player to score at any point during the match. This is subject to specific conditions depending on the bookmaker (e.g., within the top three goal scorers, depending on the bookmaker's rules).
It might look complicated but it is not. To better illustrate how this bet works I will present an example:
You place a €10 each-way bet on a player to be the first goalscorer at 11.00 odds.
The each-way terms are 1/3 odds for the place part, which covers the player scoring at any point during the match. Be extra careful with the Terms of the bookmaker please.
Breakdown of the €20 Total Stake:
€10 on First Goalscorer: If the player scores the first goal, this part wins.
€10 on Place (Anytime Scorer): If the player scores anytime during the match, this part wins at reduced odds (11.00 ÷ 3 = 3.67).
Outcomes:
1. Player Scores the First Goal:
First Goalscorer Winnings: €10 × (11.00 - 1) = €100 profit + €10 stake = €110 total.
Place Winnings: €10 × (3.67 - 1) = €26.70 profit + €10 stake = €36.70 total.
Total Payout: €110 + €36.70 = €146.70.
2. Player Scores Anytime (Not the First Goal):
First Goalscorer Bet: Loses (€10 lost).
Place Winnings: €10 × (3.67 - 1) = €26.70 profit + €10 stake = €36.70 total.
Total Payout: 0 + €36.703 = €36.70
3. Player Does Not Score:
Both bets lose, and you lose your €20 bet.
This type of bet increases your chances of a return by covering both outcomes (first goal and any goal). It is useful for players likely to score but not necessarily to score the first goal.
