I'm new to the entire world of betting but I understand statistics quite well so many of the concepts are familiar to me (EV, implied probability etc).
Currently getting my feet wet by doing matched betting, but I understand this is child's play compared to what I really want to do.
I am a software engineer by profession, so I am willing to develop software solutions that might help me, but I really just want to understand if value or arb betting is worth investing my time into. I work in front of a computer all day, so I can definitely put screen time into it. I have an decent sized bankroll, but similarly I am being conservative until I genuinely understand what I am doing. I have good experience with two sports, but I just don't really understand how to value bet effectively yet. I know it's about more than just betting on favourites
Where do I start?

Hello, I don't live in UK (as you can see from my english ) but I can tell you that if you are in front of PC all day long because of your job and you decide to add arbing/value betting, you risk to perform bad at least one of the two activities.
In general, odds change and lose value so fast that you have to pay 100% attention to the betting screen.
I'm referring to manual arbing, otherwise, if you are able to develop a bot or are going to use an automatic software to
place bets, other users could help you better than me.
Plus, if UK bookies are slower than italian ones, maybe you can do (not easily) both jobs and get satisfaction.

For uk users horses is thing to look.
Cheltenham was very successful, even tho main race (golden cup) had a lot value but outcome was awful, still there are a lot reports of 4 digit profits over cheltenham days (and i know few 5 digit) Personally i used my limited accounts and managed to profit few hundred.
Grand national was great aswell. tho its kind a meh event in my eyes... i managed to land winner tho.
Really looking fwd to ascot now.
