I agree that it was unlikely that somebody else had picked Croatia to beat France in the final and for Belgium to finish 3rd. However, the rules of the competition made it very clear that they didn't have to pay out if they didn't want to. Given that I have been severely limited for arbing there, there's a fair chance that they would have refused to pay me.

If Croatia had gone on to win, I could have lost thousands by hedging.

My decision was the correct one. Even though I thought France would win the match, it would have been gambling if I had put a bet on them to win and I don't gamble. ;)

Besides, the match could easily have gone very differently. France scored from a free kick that was never a free kick and a penalty was never a penalty. Croatia were the better team until they went 2-1 down.
