Just what is Pinnacle
« on: September 04, 2013, 11:00:31 PM »

Besides a bookmaker just what exactly is Pinnacle?

I was reading something on the NASDAQ blackout last week and this sentence made me think:

[iUS-listed equities are traded on some 13 different exchanges. That’s not including “dark pools,” which carry out trades for institutional investors outside of the published prices.][/i]

Could Pinnacle be a 'dark pool' albeit one masquerading as a bookmaker. Or better yet two-faced like Janus from Roman mythology.

I think Pinnacle is not a bookmaker. I believe they're an organized betting syndicate..

Dark pools are used in forex and stock markets, in order to avoid paying taxes to states, or, in order to hide transactions from the general public and even institutions.
Pinnacle has no reason to do something like this. They dont give report to anyone.
That said, i believe that Pinnacle is hiding a lot of things from the public.
I m more than sure that they get bets from US rings. I m also sure that they offer lower odds to the players coming from these rings, simply because they need to pay mediums.
Since the money is that big, if there is anything to be fixed in any american market, pinnacle will probably know it. And if there is any sencitive info not on air, again Pinnacle will have knowledge of it.

Yes, I know dark pools exist for avoidance of capital gains tax and for hedge funds and other monster players to make trades out of view behind a curtain. I meant to use the idea of dark pools as analogy for better understanding what Pinnacle is.

As far as them getting bets from American rings I have no doubt that's true though I would also go a step farther to guess that Pinnacle was set up by players from one or more of those rings. Hard to grasp where one starts and the other ends.

Maybe true but Pinnacle doesn't need to know any fixed games. Their oddsmakers are sharp enough. Remember, when a line moves, it always happens first at Pinnacle Sports!
