Does anyone have any stats out there.
I'm thinking
1. Tomic - If not retiring then hitting the ball with the wrong end.
2. Kyrgios - I'm injured but I can still shake it at nighclubs
3. G Muguruza - There should be an option to bet for win or retire.
4. Dolgopolov - Does it again this year, fantastic effort.
5. Ana Konjuh - Is there a pattern here
6. M Baghdatis - Very good strike rate
7. F Lopez - I'm Injured, anyone for doubles?
8. Horacio Zeballos - 1 in 5 chance, maybe for finishing a match
9. Stakhovsky - Shows consistency every year.
......
Worth Contenders
- Vanni L - His buddy was caught for Match fixing.
- Klizan - Didn't make the top 10, because he needs to get into the tournament first before he retires
- Erakovic
- Naomi Osaka
- Djokovic
- Bouchard
- Barthel
- Julia Goerges
- Steve Darcis
- Mmoh

D. Sela was another on the list that retires often.
I think he makes the top 10.

Re: Top Tennis Player that retire in matches
Have you noticed that almost none of the retirements happen when that player is losing.
The exception being really badly hurt like Mattek-Sands.
I think there should be a rule in tennis, that if you retire in a match. You cannot play another match for 96 hours and you give back half your money.
If you can walk out a stadium on your own two legs,
then you can hit a tennis ball.
The exception being really badly hurt like Mattek-Sands.

But if you lost money due to a retirement, then it'll even out in the long run, so don't worry too much about it.

Re: Top Tennis Player that retire in matches
I disagree, I used to play competition tennis for years, obviously not ATP level, but I played against players who had rankings.
I never retired from a match. Even when I twisted it really badly, I played on one leg. If I was injured before, then I wouldn't play.
I wouldn't just show up and then retire after losing a set.
These players are not even that badly injured.
Look at MMA figher, Rob Whittaker, he got injured and on one leg still beat the scariest guy alive.
These players are weak and care about the pay cheque rather than putting 100%.
Believe me, in Tennis if you can stand, you can play tennis.
You may not be able to sprint for every ball, but at least give the fans that paid money to see you, something to see.
PS: I'm not losing any money, because I rarely arb these days.
If I do, I play same rules.

Re: Top Tennis Player that retire in matches
and if your response is, then you are risking injury.
Then how do you turn around and play doubles, the next day.
Or the next tournament, or go night clubbing.
If I was really injured, I'd be resting/recovering.

Re: Top Tennis Player that retire in matches
This are official numbers from few years ago:
Player Matches Ret Rate
Sergiy Stakhovsky 209 4.8%
Michael Llodra 370 4.6%
Yen Hsun Lu 222 4.5%
Janko Tipsarevic 434 3.9%
Denis Istomin 211 3.8%
Paul Henri Mathieu 456 3.7%
Filippo Volandri 367 3.5%
Potito Starace 347 3.5%
Xavier Malisse 531 3.0%
Viktor Troicki 300 3.0%
I dont have new data but Kyrgios,Tomic and Nishikori had canceled few matches recently,Kyrgios admit 3 weeks ago that he tanked 8 of his 18 games this year after that last 2 matches he quit after loosing 1st at queens and 2 sets on Wimbledon so 10 out of his 20 matches was tanked or canceled because of injury .
Few players that you mention there have problems with injuries but they dont quit their game while playing.

Re: Top Tennis Player that retire in matches
I dont know % but these few should never be taken on Pinnacle (1st set rule) to win, from top of my head:
Obvious ones this season-Dolgopolov,Baghdatis,Tipsarevic,Kokkinakis,Nishikori(altough he had fair share of walkovers instead trying to play)
Level 2 (dont retire that much but there is often some issue going with them) -Darcis,bhambri,Khukhuskhin,Klizan,Lu yen hsun,Mannarino
Notable mentions in 2017 are also Kamke,Dustov
Tankers-they actually dont have much injury issues but they can tank badly if its not going in their favour:Tomic,Paire,Fognini,Cecchinato
Dzumhur,Brown (not much lately)
Funny you all mention Feliciano Lopez i didnt had same experience with him
