No, because spending your day comparing bookie odds to Pinnacle and Betfair and then betting to make small amounts off of them is much better

Thanos Thanos, as a sportsbook employee, were you allowed to place bets yourself? Or was there a rule that it was strictly forbidden for sportbook employees to place bets?

Re: A gambling syndicate
Well I can speak only for live betting as I was doing only live trading. We didnt follow pinnacle there was no time for that. feeds did all the work , if we were comparing a bookie to check if all was correct that was bet365 or in some cases fonbet, when there was no offer from bet365. But on the background the risk team used pinnacle and other bookies to compare timed odds with bets placed. this process could be done both in real time and not. What I mean is that a guy from risk could check today a bet you placed i.e 2 days ago on a live event at 16:32 pm and compare the betano odds with pinnacle odds at that time.there are special tools for this. Now regarding myself I didnt give a fcuk if somebody arbed or not, In fact sometis arbers were needed to balance the book, so I didnt mind sending someone for limits if he arbed on my position, what I really hated were bonus and offer abusers or clients betting on "suspicious" events

How does that exactly work? You bet on the company pc or just on your phone? Because if you are also a customer with them, don't they limit your own account eventually?Thanos Thanos wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2024 4:27 pmNo theoretically ,but it in practice yes. Why bookies allow arbs/value bets to appear in the first place. I mean if they automatically follow Pinnacle odds feed why do they sometimes have very different odds?

For example say UK is playing against France in football. Then on French bookmakers people might be biased and bet more on their own country, while on some UK bookmakers the opposite.
For a bookmaker it's important to get the price to a level where they get equal action on both sides, so their book is balanced.
Re: A gambling syndicate
I think the problem is they try to balance their books and not every book will have same betting behaviour.

Re: A gambling syndicate
you couldn't be more wrong than that. For bookmakers the goal is to get as much volume as possible on negative expected value, no one is balancing the books as it will result in losing revenue long term.

But i agree in theory they should make the price at the point where both sides are max -EV. In an efficient market this should happen automatic because sharps will move the price to where it should be. This is the Asian bookmaker model. It has worked perfectly so why you say they would lose revenue?
Re: A gambling syndicate
Why would they lose revenue? That's where the vig is for. So when they have a balanced book action comes from both sides. When not balanced the action might come mostly from one side, which could cause more risk to the bookmaker when that side ends up winning. While if it's perfectly balanced out, it's more like player vs player, the bookmarker just takes the vig.
