22yo Cobolli finally finished inside top100 and is in the Grand Slam main draw. In the past he already played well as a junior in Australia (final in the prestigious Traralgon tournament), also on hard court. Last year he produced some good results on the ATP tour and he has potential for top50. He is very fast around the court, super solid from both wings. His serve has some good pop and quality on second delivery, but sometimes the first serve % is problematic. In first round he played against #18 big hitter Jarry from Chile and he won in 5 sets. I watched the full game and Cobolli showed great mental strength, excellent return and defensive skills as he was able to play back Jarry shots (one of the biggest hitter on tour). Also he looked fresh at the end of the 5 sets match. Impressive stuff and for sure he is full of confidence as he already played twice against Kotov and won in both matches.
Pavel Kotov improved a lot last year, but he still lacks experience on this level. He hit big, but for sure Jarry was a bigger test for Cobolli in the opening match. Kotov is not the fittest player on the tour, no doubt about that. He also played 5 sets in the first round and if this match goes the distance, I expect a big advantage for Cobolli. In addition to that, Kotov called physio in his match for the wrist problems. According to my insider information, he played on painkillers..
In those circumstances I see enormous value on Cobolli. For me he should be around 2.00
