Betfair's (Flutter) newest unethical behaviour report

Mon Jan 09, 2023 8:15 am

Every January, Betfair and Paddy Power appear to be doing their annual sweep of affiliate accounts they don't want to pay. They simply suspended the account and refuse to respond to any e-mails. How polite!

This is purely a business decision they make and it is not based on any justification. Affiliates invest a decent amount of time to build a basis, and just like that, Betfair sends a generic F..K OFF email confiscating future commissions.

It also worths mentioning that Flutter group is the last to pay any revenue at the end of the month, or the beginning of the next one.

This is to highlight their unethical behaviours that I am sure expands far beyond affiliates.

And a quick question. All these silly people that accuse Orbit, BIA, or anyone else in various forums for having their balances disappearing in cricket games...how do you know it is not Betfair doing that?

All Flutter brands in the UK are going downhill fast these days (mainly paddy/betfair), whether intentional or not i dont know but Betfair is slowly being run into the ground with poor quality of staff and closing of any accounts who bet larger than £100 even if they can prove they can afford to do so.

I can not really tell what's going on with betfair, but I sense a little bit of emotion from your side here. Unethically practices are a core element of the betting industry.

I'm also wondering why you consider the people who claim to be scammed by Orbit/BIA to be "silly"? As far as I know we dont know yet who is responsible for the bets on the cricket games. With all the evidence out (I guess I relate to the same forums, as you do) there a inside job from a BIA or orbit worker doesn't seem totally unplausible to me. Wouldn't be the first time in the betting industry, would it? Of course it could also be a made up story by a competitor or betfair itself. As we are all smart bettors here, we shouldnt jump to any conclusion, too soon.

We had exactly the same situation with Smarkets some years ago. It seems it is a common practise of low ethics managements. In general, I am noticing these last years the ethics in the industry are going down the drain faster than ever.

You're mentioning the decline of ethics a lot, lately. And I do totally agree. But more importantly I ask myself why is this happening. Here is what I observe. The betting firms are getting more and more immoral at the same speed as the market gets smarter and smarter in general. The market is running out of dumb money
and if you're not a top notch bookmaker you have no chance to survive over the next few years. So this immoral behaviour is an attempt for not so smart market participants to stay in the game. This doesn't make anything right, but it's a normal human tendency to show your bad side if you are under pressure.

If you want to frame it positively, this is cognitive evolution happening. The people in general are getting smarter over time and the less smart market participants are getting out of the game. This is a process where this community also plays an important rule. I'm wondering what your position is on this?

Indeed the younger guys entering the gambling sphere are smarter than the older. Some times they are smarter by simply understanding the danger and staying out of the game early. However, human character never changes and there will always be all kind of losers like every aspect in life. We are in a way framed in Europe, and we do not see the party going on in LATAM. We are talking about some 700.000.000 people in a virgin market. Bookmakers might be showing their bad face here in Europe, but they do show their good face in LATAM.

Competition is bringing less profits to people/companies who were addicted to bigger profits. And it is not only companies. It is also about individuals. I m noticing more and more people not honouring their word, as not everything is business is under contract. Right now, I would never make any business with persons from certain countries without a strong contract.
