DraftKings is facing a class-action lawsuit alleging ''unfair and deceptive'' advertising in relation to the sportsbook’s $1,000 bonus bet offer for new customers.
The Public Health Advocacy Institute, which filed the suit on behalf of two Massachusetts residents, Shane Harris and Melissa Scanlon, accused DraftKings of designing its promotion to deliberatly mislead new customers into believing they would receive a $1,000 bonus after depositing money into their account.
The lawsuit stated that ''buried in the fine print were terms requiring that customers make an initial deposit of $5,000 and place high-risk bets totaling $25,000 over 90 days in order to receive the full $1,000 of bonus money,'' and that Harris and Scanlon ''did not understand they would have had to bet an average of $276 per day for three months to qualify.''
DraftKings stated it disagrees with the claims in the suit and intends to vigorously defend itself.
