Employment in betting industry
Anyone employed in a bookie as a trader? Im pretty happy about steady money I make but bit bored about trading on my own recently. Thought, I can try to get a trader position for a while to find out if I like it or not, full remote so wouldnt influence my trading stuff anyway. Would be nice to hear any advices, stories. Started my profile on Linkedln but having loads of added traders, recruiters, trading aquisition managers all I get is office work only (may share contacts if someone would be interested of as I was asked if I know anyone being interested of Malta based position), nothing full remote unfortunately.

Re: Employment in betting industry
Hi Alex,
Yes I am currently working for a bigger European sportsbook as a trader (beside my own betting), could give you some information about that. I don´t know exactly about other companies, but there should not be too much differences. Also would be interested to hear about the Malta based positions, as I will leave my current job in a couple of months and was thinking about moving over there anyway sometime in the future.
You can also PM me of course

Re: Employment in betting industry
Can you tell me is it full time remote position? Can I ask how you got employed, did you apply via their career web page or other way? What about your past experience, did they verifiy you somehow? Cant PM here but you can contact Azucena Sanmartin Moreno, Trainee Recruiter at Betting Connections via Lindedln she asked me if I know anyone who would be interested of Malta based position. Guess anyone interested can get a job there straight away as quite few similar offers were sent to me last weeks, lost contacts so can't give you more, I deleted messages as due to my personal conditions I cant move anywhere.

Re: Employment in betting industry
yeah its kind a easy to get job in igaming sector in malta. without experience customer support is most likely if you have experience then i guess it depens on company and your skills what position they can or want to offer you. Working experience (culture / benefits etc) in different companys can be a lot different tho.
Some companies allow you to work at home all night shifts and day shift most of weeks (but still need to come office for some days) other ones might be always on office or majority of time etc.
There are some companies where u cant even have phone with you and if u want to take a water/ coffee etc u need to ask supervisor to do that..other ones (or most) are pretty relaxed enviroment.

Re: Employment in betting industry
Thanks Alex, I just looked around a bit and really seems to be a lot of vacancies over there.
In my current job I applied the same way as in other jobs via a job website, before that I worked as a data scout during university and attended a 'bookmaker course' which might have helped on paper.
I think if you know a little bit about the betting markets and industry, you have a good chance to get in somewhere, as there are really a lot of people who don´t know what they are doing at European bookies and betting providers.
Full remote might be tough to get anywhere, after the covid restrictions I had the chance to get three of five days at home now.

Re: Employment in betting industry
I believe all bookmakers will request for physical presence one way or another. In addition, having travelled to Malta very recently, I m convinced this place is fine for a city break or a quick getaway, but I m sure it is tough to live there continuously, as an island (or a group of islands) is restricting life by default.
In addition, being a successful trader means that you are used to much higher profits than a salary offered from a bookmaker, no matter how high this could be. Would you be OK with that?
A successful trader/arber/smart bettor already has the correct mindset for a number of ventures and entrepreneurial efforts. Maybe you should look something outside betting that would fit that mindset. Just an idea.

By the way, examples like the evolutionary path of Jim Makos are more than inspiring.
Re: Employment in betting industry
In my opinion, the smart betting business is a relatively independent training ground when it comes to mastering parts of many skills, including risk measurement, evaluations of all environmental circumstances in relation to the current business task, proper money management, and various exercises for investors, in-depth observation of the big picture, building causal relationships at a deeper level, data evaluations, building fundamental and technical data analysis skills, various test exercises, applying statistical processing, building a business plan, control and correction on the fly and endless other factors.

Silly question, but - what does a trader do at a sports book?

Managing/monitoring markets, managing sports events, ensuring markets are settled correctly, monitoring bets, customers, betting patterns etc.

I think that if there’s anybody here who used to work in such a role and is willing to answer questions, this could be quite interesting for this community.

Any good idea? thanksarbusers wrote: ↑Wed Aug 03, 2022 5:32 pmI believe all bookmakers will request for physical presence one way or another. @CharlieSeen and Camma23,
Obviously, what you are going to do the day after is dependent on what is the capital you accumulated all these years. This will be your starting point. So you first have to define the available capital, the circumstances stances you are in,, and then ask these questions.
