Important gambling statistics you should know

Fri Feb 09, 2024 2:15 pm

So I decided to post some important gambling statistics that I m sure you will find very interesting. They will add up in your general knowledge on gambling, and probably they will explain some phenomena.

When bettors were asked ‘’what sports betting brands are you aware of?’’ respondents listed the following brands as the top 10. No wonder that Bet365 enjoys the top of the list, this is the most popular bookmaker worldwide and for good reasons. You might also notice that 1XBET is on the second place proving that the advertising money they pay in top European Clubs and Leagues were well spent. I wish they could spend this money to other fields that would help them build reliability. The survey took place in Germany.

Australia: has the highest gambling losses per person at around $1200 per year according to H2 Gambling Capital. Australians lose far more money per person globally. That explains partially why bookmakers are so gentle with Australians. Compare it with Europe if you can!

Singapore: has the second highest rate of gambling losses per capita with the average gambler losing $725 per year.

India: is one of the fastest growing GEOs for online gambling. Online casino activity is not regulated in any way and there are no prohibitions on advertising. In addition, high value income individuals in India generally speak fluently English, which makes advertising and marketing in English more efficient than in Hindi. Speaking with dozens of executives, I can say that India is the next big thing right after the USA. It is the region with all gambling eyes on it.

UK: around 0.5% of the population has a gambling problem, an estimated 168,149 people, up by 50% year-on-year, according to the UK government. Unofficial sources claim that some 1% to 1.5% of UK population could sell, or already sold its betting profile to others for gambling reasons.

Latvia: has the biggest gambling problems in the World, according to quitgambling.com.

Oklahoma state: has the highest rate of gambling addiction of all US states, with 6.2% of their population. However, this might change as more US states legalise online gambling.

China: has the most gambling addicts in the world. Close to 60 million Chinese are gambling addicts, or 4% of the Chinese population.

USA: 75% of college students have gambled in the last 12 months. Some of the so-called college drop outs are due to gambling, and not due to the lab in the garage.

As for the penalties...

2023 broke all records. The largest fine issued by a gambling regulator was the $296.600.000 financial penalty agreed between The Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) and Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth in 2023. In addition, the largest fine issued by the UKGC was the $24.000.000 to William Hill Group in March of 2023.

67.8 million American adults (or 26% of US adult population) bet on Super Bowl LVIII that took place yesterday.
This is up 35% from 2023.
46% of these Americans bet online.
It is estimated the total amount of bets is $23.1 billion.
This is up 44% from 2023.
Only 38 states allow legal online betting as of today. These states represent 67% of the US population.

Here is a different kind of stats:

According to Apex Marketing Group, Taylor Swift has generated $331.5m for the National Football League (NFL), simply by showing up to watch the Super Bowl.

Gameday data from GeoComply suggests that in the minutes leading up to kick-off it recorded an enormous spike in traffic, coming to 14,750 bets per second. This is more than double last year’s peak and the highest transactions per second GeoComply has ever recorded.

GeoComply also reported that 1.77 million new users signed up for legal online betting accounts in the two weeks leading up to the game. Legal bookmakers are channeling just 45% of Super Bowl betting demand.

According to identification verification service Socure, the rate of suspicious transactions on gaming platforms linked to fraud spiked 206% compared to volumes recorded during January’s playoff games

A little bit off-topic.
While I worked on building my proper Super Bowl LVIII Chiefs vs. 49ers tune-ups, I collected a lot of additional data and watched additional games to form a solid opinion.
But when I tried to find some outside opinions and analyses from the USA as the Home of Football, I was amazed that discussions related to Taylor Swift were huge in a lot of "sporting analyses" related to the National Football League and the Super Bowl.

One of the things I didn't like in this year's Super-bowl was the celebrity style of marketing. I m not sure if Swift served the sport, or the sport served Swift, but there were top athletes in the field that received little if no attention at all, just because Swift drunk... a beer.

Also, the amount of bodyguards that were exposed on camera was irritating. Some of them pretended being ''friends'' of the so called celebrities, with a rather poor performance. Reminded me a lot of Mykonos, where every call girl and C class wanna be celebrity confirms being... a no-one.

Other than that, a friend who was in the arena documented that 1000s of betting corporates were there and many business deals took place that day, or the day after the game. Some of these deals were Europe related.
