Odds movements

Mon Jun 20, 2022 2:52 am

Hello guys,

I had a discussion O0

Do odds only move in Europe if they moved first in Asia? (Claimed by a guy I had discussion with)

Or can odds move as well if someone is betting big in Europe? Can the odds move internally in Europe based on European action alone?

I would say it is completely irrelevant where "someone is betting big". Exactly due to arbitrage, the odds should move quickly no matter where in the world someone bets big. A bookmaker who gets hit by a big bet will very soon lower the odds of that event and increase the odds of the counter-event. If this leads to an arbitrage situation - well: boom, there we go. We make money and the "market" moves in the direction of the "big bet" very quick. Or the bookie goes to an exchange and loads its risks off there - same story: market will move to an equilibrium.
