What if a country blocking the most of bookies?

Fri Nov 04, 2022 8:30 am

Hi guys!

Do you have any experiences what to do if your resident country blocking almost all betting sites? From 2023.01.01 my country tighten the regulation, and will not allow operation of bookies. So there will be a new regulation about this in here (Hungary), and it will contain some specifications which hypotetically allows the EEA registered online bookies to get license, but it will be very strict, so in reality the bookis will not get the license, thereafter they will be blocked if they operating without the license, and can get be punished. I know VPN can work, but the KYC procedure may won't, because of my proof of address. Any ideas? Anyone who playing jurisdiction where most of bookies blocked? Thank you in advance!

Same situation in my country.

No need to VPN.

Switch to google DNS servers and you will be fine.

Never have issues with KYC.

When a country regulates (or deregulates) its gambling market, it is very common that most of the bookmakers are pulling out and they no longer serve clients from this specific country. I don't want to discourage you, but as you are getting closer and closer to the date, you will receive mails from bookmakers informing you to withdraw your funds and stop using their services.
On the flip side, you never know what the new regulation brings. Maybe things get better for clients and you have even more chances than before.
For good or bad check this: portal/compare-agents/
In my view, it is always the soft bookmakers that will be missed from a regulated market.

Obviously if a bookie does not accept customers from your country, you will not register with them.

In any way, by changing DNS server your IP stays the same so logically bookie will not let you register either. Yet you will be able to access all those books that will still accept Hungarians but prohibit VPN usage (they are many if not most)

As previously suggested you can bypass the jurisdiction's blocking of gambling sites by adjusting the DNS to Google's. Just enter your DNS settings as 8.8.8.8 and the next line as 8.8.4.4. This will probably gain you access to the website.

As for playing with Hungarian proof of address that depends on the bookie you're trying to play. Generally, during registration there will be a tab where you select your country. If Hungary is on that tab AND there aren't any clauses in their TCs specifically barring Hungary, then you can join and they should accept your proof of address.

There's a caveat. If Hungary is banning gambling sites from operating without their licence, then it will likely filter out bookmakers with certain licences. The most reputable places probably just won't accept players from Hungary, with existing account holders having accounts closed and being asked to withdraw their funds, while new applicants won't be able to get past registration. The caveat is that the places that continue to do business in Hungary are likely to be higher risk to have your funds with.

Also, I'm not much of a sports bettor but I have noticed that when a country introduces new strict licensing, it is usually accompanied with heavy taxation on any bookie that is awarded the licence. The bookie will try to pass on this tax to the player by offering terrible odds on most events. So if you're gambling in Hungary and these new regulations come in, it may be the offshore shadier places that offer the best value. There is an unlikely but possible silver lining in all this: Poor gaming conditions may create a micro-climate where there are very few smart bettors, so operators may become far less efficient at the usual countermeasures. You may notice they start to make very exploitable mistakes and take longer to notice because very few people are really making them pay for these mistakes. Smart bettors make operators more efficient at game protection. Without them then that efficiency tends to decrease.

Thank you very much for your asnwers! I think it will be that they will simply not allow registration from this residence. Sucks.
